Plot Summary

In the sleepy town of Shimotsuma, Japan, Momoko, a spirited high school student, has built an armor of self-reliance around herself, thanks to her father’s legal troubles stemming from his bootleg clothing ventures. The only lolita in town, she finds solace in her signature style and fixates on obtaining the coveted ensembles from Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, her ultimate fashion obsession. When funds dwindle, Momoko turns to selling off her father’s old merchandise, unwittingly capturing the attention of Ichigo, a bold member of an all-female biker gang, who becomes a regular visitor to her doorstep, purchasing bootleg apparel and forging an unlikely bond with the fashion-conscious teen.

As their connection deepens, Ichigo and Momoko embark on a thrilling adventure to Tokyo’s Baby, The Stars Shine Bright store, where they meet the brand’s enigmatic designer. Momoko’s exceptional embroidery skills catch the eye of the designer, who recruits her for a special project, further solidifying her confidence. Meanwhile, Ichigo’s world is turned upside down when she meets a charming gangster with a pompadour at a Tokyo pachinko parlour, only to discover that he’s engaged to her gang leader.

Shattered by the revelation and disillusioned with the new direction of her gang, Ichigo finds solace in Momoko’s unwavering independence. Inspired by her friend’s unapologetic spirit, Ichigo decides to leave the gang and break free from their restrictive hierarchy. The only way to do so is to accept their “challenge,” a ritualistic beating that will test her resolve. Momoko, ever the loyal companion, discovers Ichigo’s plan and rushes to her aid, posing as the daughter of a notorious gangster to intimidate the rival gang members.

With Momoko’s quick thinking, they emerge victorious, and the two friends ride off into the sunset, their bond stronger than ever, as they leave the drama of their past behind.

As the moment of truth arrives for Momoko to unveil her exquisite embroidery to the esteemed designer, she presents herself punctually, garnering widespread admiration for her intricate handiwork. However, a subtle yet significant shift occurs as she begins to realize that donning the garments is an equally satisfying experience, if not more so, than creating them. Meanwhile, Ichigo’s impressive display of confidence in front of a cameraman catches the attention of Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, leading to a modeling opportunity. On her inaugural day on set, despite accidentally leaving a trail of bruises on five crew members, she unwittingly becomes the sought-after muse for multiple brands. As the credits roll, we’re treated to a heartwarming visual of Momoko and Ichigo sharing a hearty laugh as they cruise along the open road, their bond and carefree spirits on full display.
