Plot Summary

As Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) settles into his post-Police Squad life, he finds himself disillusioned with his domestic duties and struggling to connect with his wife, Jane Spencer Drebin. Six months of marriage counseling later, Frank’s restlessness is palpable as he’s suddenly summoned by old pals Ed Hocken and Nordberg (Alan North and George Wyner) to investigate a sinister plot involving notorious bomber Rocco Dillon, now incarcerated but still pulling strings from behind bars.

Frank’s recollection of Tanya Peters, Rocco’s former flame and a familiar face from his Police Squad days, sparks his determination to help Ed and Nordberg. A visit to Tanya’s clinic yields nothing more than a lost handkerchief bearing her address, which Frank had intended to pass on to Ed but ultimately misplaces. Meanwhile, Jane returns home to find Frank exhausted, leading her to suspect that he’s still moonlighting as a cop. Frank attempts to deflect the accusation by fabricating an affair, but his efforts only convince Jane that she needs space - and she promptly moves out.

With no other options left, Frank volunteers for a high-stakes undercover operation: infiltrating Rocco’s prison cell under the pseudonym Nick “The Slasher” McGurk. He earns Rocco’s trust by foiling their escape plan from an overzealous guard and orchestrating a riot, allowing them to make a daring tunnel escape. Rocco’s mother, Muriel (Sharon Barr), greets them with open arms on the outside, but Frank faces another challenge as he tries to extract information about the impending bombing from the suspicious duo.

Meanwhile, Jane and her friend Louise embark on a road trip that takes an unexpected turn when Jane discovers the handkerchief with Tanya’s address. Convinced that Frank was telling the truth about his extramarital affair, she sets off across the country to confront him at the doorstep of Tanya’s residence - only to find Frank himself, hastily improvising a cover story as he tries to keep her from blowing his undercover operation. As Frank navigates this precarious situation, Rocco finally reveals his diabolical plan: a bomb hidden in the Best Picture envelope, set to detonate during the Academy Award ceremony.

As the Awards ceremony reaches its climax, Frank seizes the opportunity to slip in unnoticed alongside Jane, intent on uncovering the sinister plot lurking beneath the surface. With his trademark flair for chaos, Frank unleashes a whirlwind of activity on stage, leaving a trail of disarray in his wake as he and Jane frantically scour the premises in search of the explosive device. Their quest takes them backstage, where Frank encounters Tanya, who attempts to distract him with her alluring charm. However, the subtle hint of a giant phallus looming large on the wall proves too much for Frank’s sensitive stomach, prompting a hasty retreat from the scene.

Undeterred by his earlier mishap, Frank makes a dramatic entrance onto the stage, determined to thwart Rocco’s plans to detonate the bomb. A tense standoff ensues between the two adversaries, culminating in Frank’s unorthodox decision to deploy an electronic sign, which inadvertently takes out Muriel and sets the stage for a heart-stopping climax. As the stakes reach their peak, Rocco elects to sacrifice himself alongside his mother, but Frank’s quick thinking and cunning prove too much for them. With a daring display of physical prowess, Frank ensnares Rocco with a cable and sends him soaring through the arena’s roof, where he collides with Pahpshmir’s helicopter hovering above, ultimately meeting his demise along with the bomb.

As the dust settles and order is restored to the Awards ceremony, Frank and Jane bask in the adoration of the audience and viewers worldwide, their love reaffirmed for all to see. Nine months later, Frank and Nordberg make a hasty entrance into a delivery room, only to find themselves mistakenly ushered into an adjacent room where they’re met with the unexpected sight of a black infant. Frank’s initial shock quickly gives way to outrage as he hotly pursues Nordberg, his indignation finally subsiding when Jane emerges from another room, cradling their biological child in her arms.
