Who plays the character Angelo 'Snaps' Provolone?

Plot Summary

As the curtain lifts on this riveting tale, Angelo “Snaps” Provolone (Kirk Douglas) makes a solemn vow to his dying father: he will abandon the treacherous world of organized crime and instead choose the path of righteousness. One month later, Snaps awakens in his opulent mansion, where he embarks on a crucial morning routine. His goal is to solidify his reputation as a legitimate businessman by donating a substantial sum and securing a spot on the board of trustees at one of the city’s most prestigious banks.

Anthony Rossano, Snaps’ young and affable accountant, arrives at the estate with some unexpected news: he’s fallen deeply in love and requests a whopping 250% raise. The surprise twist? He claims that his true love is none other than Snaps’ own daughter, Lisa. Enraged by this revelation, Snaps confronts Lisa, determined to protect her from what he perceives as Anthony’s unsavory intentions.

Lisa, the only child of Snaps and Sofia, has always been a sheltered soul with big dreams of exploring the world beyond their mansion walls. Her desire for freedom prompts her to concoct a clever ruse: she fabricates a pregnancy scare, hoping to gain some independence from her overprotective father. Snaps, believing Anthony to be the father-to-be, is shocked when Lisa reveals that Oscar, the former chauffeur now abroad, is actually responsible.

As the web of deceit grows more tangled, Anthony discovers that Theresa, the woman he’s fallen for, is not who she claimed to be. Before he can process this bombshell, Snaps cunningly persuades him to agree to marry Lisa, who is supposedly expecting Oscar’s child. Both Lisa and Anthony are less than thrilled about their hastily arranged union, but luck intervenes when Lisa falls head over heels in love with Dr. Thornton Poole, Snaps’ trusted dialectician.

Meanwhile, local authorities Lieutenant Toomey keeps a watchful eye on the mansion, convinced that Snaps is secretly meeting with Chicago mobsters. Unbeknownst to Snaps, his rival Vendetti also suspects that he’s plotting with these same underworld figures and has planned a hit on Snaps for early afternoon. As fate would have it, Toomey is simultaneously planning a raid on the mansion to catch Snaps in the act of wrongdoing. The stage is set for a thrilling showdown between good and evil, love and deception, as Snaps navigates this treacherous landscape with his reputation hanging precariously in the balance.

As Anthony’s pursuit of Theresa leads him to the doorstep, Snap’s mansion welcomes a new arrival: Roxie, its enigmatic maid. Unbeknownst to Snap, Roxie holds a secret that will shake the very foundations of his life. A chance encounter between Snap and Roxie reveals a shared past, rekindling memories of a life left unlived. Little do they know, Theresa’s presence marks the beginning of a dramatic twist: she is none other than Roxie’s daughter, conceived during their clandestine affair years ago. The revelation sends shockwaves through the household, as Snap struggles to come to terms with his newfound role as father to two women he loves.

Just as the impromptu celebration of both daughters’ engagements reaches its climax, a sudden interruption from the bankers dampens the mood. Their unsavory proposal sparks suspicions in Snap’s mind, which are soon validated by the arrival of Toomey and the police. As chaos ensues, Vendetti’s goons make their presence known, leaving Toomey to salvage what remains of the situation.

Snap’s disillusionment with his newfound honesty sets him on a path of self-justification, leading him back down the familiar rabbit hole of crime. Meanwhile, three enigmatic black leather bags weave in and out of the narrative, each containing its own secrets: $50,000 in cash, $50,000 worth of jewelry, and Nora’s intimate undergarments.

Throughout the film, these mysterious bags change hands repeatedly, sowing chaos and confusion in their wake. Toomey, ever vigilant for signs of illicit activity, becomes convinced that Snap is hiding a substantial drug deal, his observations fueled by the constant comings and goings of the black leather bags. However, as he watches from afar, the truth gradually reveals itself: Snap’s life has become a tangled web of misunderstandings.

The film concludes with a double wedding, where both daughters exchange vows in a ceremony that brings joy to all involved – except for Oscar, who makes a last-ditch effort to object, only to be carted off by Snap’s men. As the festivities come to a close, it becomes clear that Snap has learned a valuable lesson: sometimes, the most unexpected outcomes can lead to the greatest rewards.

In the end, Roxie finds herself in possession of the jewelry and cash bags, while Snap is left holding Nora’s underwear – a discovery that leaves him both outraged and relieved. Toomey’s ill-fated raid on Snap’s home yields no incriminating evidence, leaving the underworld kingpin free to continue his life of crime, with only the faintest glimmer of hope for redemption. The whereabouts of the missing jewelry and cash remain forever shrouded in mystery, a testament to the capricious nature of fate.
