Who is the main character that takes on a cleaning job on a yacht?
Kate Sullivan, portrayed by Anna Faris, is a hardworking single mother of three daughters, struggling to make ends meet while juggling two jobs and studying to become a nurse. She receives an opportunity to clean the luxury yacht owned by the self-indulgent and wealthy Mexican playboy, Eugenio Derbez, who plays Leonardo Montenegro. Burdened by the loss of her husband, Kate has invited her mother to stay with her to help look after the children.
Meanwhile, Leonardo’s sister, Sofia Montenegro (played by Mariana Trevino), contends with her father’s favoritism towards her brother, despite his frivolous lifestyle. When Leonardo unjustly fires Kate after a petty disagreement and subsequently suffers memory loss, he washes ashore and ends up in a hospital. The authorities are alerted, and Sofia, seizing the chance, refuses to acknowledge him as her sibling, declaring him dead to avoid any responsibilities.
Upon hearing of Leonardo’s predicament online, Kate’s only friend, Eva Longoria, encourages her to take advantage of the situation. In an act of revenge, Kate visits the hospital and convinces the amnesiac that they are married. She brings him into her chaotic life while spinning a tale that their children were conceived by a sperm donor, as he is supposedly sterile.
With some help from her friend, Kate secures a job for Leonardo at her husband’s construction site, while Sofia continues with her deceit about him being dead. In this new setup, many people enjoy teasing Leonardo, oblivious to his intrinsic goodness as he engages with Kate’s daughters and helps around the house.
As the narrative unfolds, Kate approaches the date of her nursing exam, with a rising tension about revealing the truth to Leonardo, whom she has started to develop real feelings for. On the day of the exam, they share romantic moments, but the truth remains hidden. However, a subsequent encounter at the beach with the ex-chef he had previously fired leads to an unexpected revelation.
When Leo sees family photos that expose Kate’s deception, he confronts her and becomes furious, leaving her and the girls heartbroken. Yet, love brings complexity; Kate and her daughters pursue Leonardo at sea, leading to a dramatic moment where he must choose between his family and the life he had temporarily forgotten.
Recognizing his true affections and the strong bond with Kate, Leonardo ultimately decides to abandon his luxury life, and Sofia reveals that the yacht is rightfully his. With newfound wealth and the realization of what truly matters, Leonardo and Kate vow to navigate their life together, culminating in a wedding that they both deserve.
