What are the names of the two main characters in the movie?

Plot Summary

In a poignant exploration of long-distance love, Josh (Breckin Meyer) and Tiffany (Rachel Blanchard) face the ultimate test as they navigate a bittersweet separation. When Josh enrolls at the University of Ithaca and Tiffany attends the University of Austin, the young couple finds themselves torn apart by distance. Despite the challenges, they vow to maintain their emotional connection through daily phone calls, but when Tiffany’s silence leaves Josh feeling uncertain, he turns to an unconventional outlet: a heartfelt video blog.

As Josh pours his emotions onto the camera, his friends Rubin Carver (Paulo Costanzo) and Barry Manilow (Tom Green) burst into the frame, their antics providing a much-needed distraction from Josh’s worries about Tiffany. It’s amidst this chaos that Josh records a final video message for his beloved, unaware that he’ll soon be facing an even greater challenge in the form of his Ancient Philosophy class.

With his academic future hanging precariously in the balance, Josh’s friend E.L. (Seann William Scott) tries to persuade him to move on from Tiffany and focus on finding a new love interest - namely Beth (Amy Smart), who has caught his eye. But unbeknownst to Josh, Beth is already aware of her own secret admirer: Jacob (Anthony Rapp), the teacher’s assistant with a serious crush on her.

As tensions simmer beneath the surface, Josh finds himself drawn into a complex web of emotions and motivations. At E.L.’s raucous party, Josh becomes embroiled in a bizarre auction for women - including Beth, who unwittingly becomes the object of Josh’s affections. But just as it seems like things are finally falling into place, Jacob makes a surprise appearance, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown that will test the limits of Josh’s loyalty and commitment to Tiffany.

The day after the fateful confession, Josh (actor name) reveals to his friends that he had a physical encounter with Beth. His companions are skeptical and demand tangible proof of this claim. Josh attempts to produce evidence in the form of a recorded conversation, but his plans are foiled when Rubin accidentally sends the incriminating tape to Tiffany instead. As Josh is grappling with this turn of events, he receives a somber voice message from Tiffany, informing him that she’s been dealing with a family crisis - her grandfather’s passing - and will be tied up until Monday. Feeling the pinch of financial constraints, Josh decides to embark on an impromptu road trip, despite lacking the funds for airfare. He convinces E.L. (actor name) to join him, and together they persuade Kyle (DJ Qualls), a fastidious worrier haunted by his tyrannical father Earl Edwards, to accompany them on their journey.

As Barry takes care of Mitch back home, Beth approaches him with a pressing question: where is Josh? Barry inadvertently leads her astray, suggesting that Josh has traveled to Boston to visit Tiffany (confusing the city with Austin). Beth subsequently pays a visit to the wrong Tiffany in Boston, unaware of the mix-up. Meanwhile, Josh and his companions - including E.L., Rubin, and Kyle - set their sights on covering 1,800 miles in under three days, leaving Barry to manage Mitch’s needs.

As they navigate the open road, the group engages in a lively discussion about loopholes and soon find themselves confronted with a daunting ten-foot gap that would require them to backtrack by five hours. Rather than accept this setback, they devise a plan to clear the hurdle, despite Kyle’s objections. They successfully jump the gap, only for their vehicle to meet an untimely demise when the wheels fall off and the car explodes into flames.

With their transportation gone up in smoke, Josh and his friends are forced to continue on foot, eventually stopping at a motel where Rubin attempts to score marijuana from the clerk (played by Andy Dick). Unfortunately, Kyle’s credit card is maxed out, leaving them without the means to procure necessary supplies. Back in Boston, Kyle’s father Earl (Fred Ward) becomes frantic when he learns that his son’s car has been destroyed and that Kyle himself has gone missing.

As they make their way towards Austin, Josh and his companions encounter a series of absurd misadventures, including Rubin’s brazen bluffing attempt to infiltrate an all-Black fraternity at the University of Tennessee and a chaotic visit with Barry’s grandparents. With Josh’s research notes destroyed in the explosion, he scrambles to secure an extension on his midterm exam from his professor - or so he believes.

As the group rolls into Austin, Josh seizes the opportunity to intercept the tape he dispatched to Tiffany, who has just returned to campus, at her dorm alongside his friends. Meanwhile, Earl storms in, his ire palpable over the car debacle and credit card fiasco, threatening to whisk Kyle away from their schoolboy escapades. Kyle musters the courage to stand firm against his friend’s ultimatum, declaring his intention to return to school with his pals.

As Josh and Tiffany screen the tape, they’re left underwhelmed by its contents - nothing but Barry’s mooning visage staring back at them. Beth, meanwhile, has uncovered the truth about the real Tiffany and reaches out to warn Josh that he’s been duped by Jacob’s cunning ruse. With only 48 hours remaining before his midterm, Josh faces a daunting prospect: failure would not only jeopardize his course grades but also put his college tenure at risk.

Following this revelatory call, Josh and Tiffany come to the realization that their romance has run its natural course, deciding instead to maintain a platonic bond. With a newfound sense of purpose, Josh and his companions embark on the journey back to school, arriving just in time for Josh to take his midterm - Beth’s timely assistance proving invaluable in his quest for academic success.

In the end, Josh navigates the challenges ahead, ultimately passing the course and earning his freedom to pursue a budding romance with Beth. Together, they create more videos that showcase their playful chemistry, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
