The After Party 2018

In a serendipitous encounter, aspiring rapper Owen Ellison (together with his manager and childhood friend Jeff Levine) stumbles upon an unsuspecting intern, Bernard, in a bathroom stall. The duo, undeterred by their mistaken identity, unleashes an impromptu rap performance, hoping to impress the supposed Rahmel and secure a record deal. However, they’re in for a surprise when Bernard reveals himself as merely an intern at Atlantic Records.

The misadventure sets the tone for Owen’s struggles as he navigates his passion for music amidst personal and professional setbacks. Upon returning home from high school, Owen runs into Jeff’s sister Alicia, with whom he shares a long-standing infatuation. Inviting her to his upcoming show, Owen hopes to make a lasting impression. Meanwhile, Jeff’s father imparts sage advice on the importance of focus, particularly as Harvard looms on the horizon.

As the stakes grow higher, Owen seeks guidance from his mentor, William, only to be met with devastating news: William’s past actions have left a deep scar, having shot someone Jeff loved. This revelation sets off a chain reaction of events that ultimately leads Owen to meet Bernard once more, this time accompanied by none other than Wiz Khalifa.

The performance goes awry as Owen suffers a seizure on stage, prompting the infamous “Seezjah Boy” video to spread like wildfire online. Crushed and feeling his music career slipping away, Owen contemplates joining the Marines as a way to escape the humiliation. As Owen becomes increasingly reclusive, he’s constantly recognized and mobbed by fans, his music career seemingly doomed.

In a last-ditch effort, Jeff turns to Alicia for assistance in getting Owen to Atlantic Records’ secret French Montana show that night. With Bernard’s help, they manage to gain entry, setting the stage for a dramatic turn of events that will determine the course of Owen’s life and musical aspirations.

As the debauched evening wears on, Owen and Jeff’s companions - a trio of sultry strippers - join them for an unforgettable adventure. However, their revelry takes an unexpected turn when they damage Jeff’s dad’s prized Rolls-Royce in the process. With time running out, the friends discover they’re too late to catch Alicia and Rahmel at the After After Party, leading to a heated blame game between Jeff and Owen. But just as it seems things can’t get any more intense, Owen unleashes a devastating rap that leaves Jeff reeling.

Later, when a brawl erupts, Owen springs into action to protect his friend, paving the way for their reconciliation. With Bernard’s help, they secure Rahmel’s address, affording Jeff one final opportunity to showcase his skills. Their daring climb up the fire escape, however, is met with a pungent surprise - a face full of pepper spray.

As the morning dawns, Owen’s dad warns him that they’re about to depart, only for Owen to be beset by a barrage of texts and calls when Jeff’s phone explodes in his hand. The news that their impromptu rap battle has gone viral sends shockwaves through the music industry, with everyone clamoring to sign Owen to their label. As he processes this sudden turn of events, Owen finds himself reinvigorated, willing to chase his dreams once more.

The film concludes on a triumphant note, as we find Owen basking in the glow of success, with Jeff by his side, managing his newfound fame and ensuring that their friendship remains strong despite the chaos that has ensued.
