High school student Vada goes to the restroom during class after receiving a call from her little sister, Amelia. It is during this time that tragedy strikes as a school shooting unfolds. Vada, along with her classmates Mia and Quinton, finds refuge in a stall, facing the harrowing reality of the situation as Quinton’s brother is among the victims.

In the aftermath of this traumatic event, Vada sinks into a deep depression, isolating herself from her family and her best friend, Nick. The mere thought of entering the bathroom where she sought shelter fills her with dread, leading to a humiliating incident when the sound of a soda can being crushed overwhelms her, causing her to lose control. In a desperate attempt to cope with her pain, she turns to ecstasy, prompting Nick to offer support during her altered state.

As Vada’s relationships become strained, a night of drinking leads to an unexpected kiss and sexual encounter between her and Mia. This new development, however, complicates Vada’s life further. Following a heated argument with Nick regarding her self-destructive habits, Vada attempts to find solace in Quinton, but is gently rebuffed as he struggles with his own emotions.

The weight of her grief isolates Vada further from everyone, including Mia. However, in a pivotal moment, Amelia confesses her fears about Vada resenting her for the fateful phone call that placed her in danger. Reassuring her sister, Vada finds a way to heal their bond. She also makes amends with her parents and Mia, and by her next therapy session, it’s evident that she has begun to confront the events that shattered her world. Yet, she acknowledges that her relationship with Nick may never be the same.

While waiting outside Mia’s dance class, Vada receives a notification about another school shooting occurring in the country, triggering a panic attack. This moment illustrates just how deeply the trauma still affects her, highlighting her ongoing struggle with the events that unfolded.
