His creative spark once flared with the publication of “The Human Apparatus,” a critically acclaimed work that earned him numerous awards. However, this fleeting moment of literary success was followed by a prolonged period of writer’s block, which has stymied Jep’s creative endeavors.

As he drifts through the city’s social circles, Jep is surrounded by an eclectic ensemble of friends: Romano, a playwright forever bound to the whims of a young woman; Lello, a boisterous toy merchant with a penchant for wealth; Viola, a wealthy matriarch struggling to come to terms with her son’s crippling mental health issues; Stefania, a self-absorbed writer consumed by her own radical chic ideology; and Dadina, the diminutive editor of Jep’s newspaper workplace.

One fateful morning, Jep receives the shattering news that Elisa, his first and possibly only love, has passed away. Her husband reveals that she left behind a poignant diary, chronicling her enduring passion for Jep – a love that had been relegated to the shadows, mere “companionship” for 35 years.
