In a distant Abyssinian castle during 50 BC, the spirited princess Nawa (Shazia Ali) seizes a chance to flee from an unappealing arranged marriage by using a pair of magical earrings that swap her body with that of a slave girl (Vivian Corado). As the two girls wear the enchanted earrings, their minds are magically exchanged, leading to unexpected complications. Meanwhile, the king (Ozman Sirgood) insists on marrying the slave girl, now in the princess’ body, to the disgusting prince.

Fast forward to present-day, we find Jessica Spencer (Rachel McAdams), a highly regarded high school cheerleader enjoying life with her close-knit circle of friends: April (Anna Faris), Keecia (Maritza Murray), and Lulu (Alexandra Holden). Jessica’s life takes a turn when she mocks a classmate before a chaotic trip to the mall, where she conspires against her rival, Bianca (Maria-Elena Laas).

During her adventure, Jessica encounters an intriguing African-themed shop and impulsively steals the very pair of magic earrings that Nawa used centuries prior. Shortly after, Clive (Rob Schneider), a small-time criminal, robs a gas station nearby. A chance encounter at the gas station flips their worlds upside down when Jessica accidentally drops one of the earrings, and Clive, unaware of its significance, picks it up.

Things spiral out of control as Jessica finds herself secretly dating her boyfriend, Billy (Matthew Lawrence), while her own parents, Carol (Melora Hardin) and Richard (Michael O’Keefe), navigate their troubled marriage. That night, both Jessica and Clive wear the earrings, leading to a morning where Jessica wakes up in Clive’s body, while Clive occupies Jessica’s.

Now, with a cheering competition and prom night fast approaching, Jessica must convince her friends that she resides within Clive’s body. With her friends offering support, she cleverly navigates the day-to-day struggles, including a humorous moment in the men’s restroom. Jessica’s attempts to adapt to her new identity are comically chaotic, and she uncovers a possible way to reverse the transformation with the help of her friends who find a picture of the earrings online.

As events unfold, Jessica, disguised as Clive, takes on unusual job roles, including as a janitor and gardener, and bonds with her father in ways she never thought possible. Meanwhile, Clive, using Jessica’s body, resorts to dubious schemes for personal gain. When prom night arrives, the chaos in their switched lives comes to a climax, leading to a wild series of events that involve disappearing earrings and a crucial confrontation.

Ultimately, amidst the backdrop of young love and high school dynamics, the girls’ determination leads to a resolution where Jessica and Clive regain their bodies. The story wraps up with a heartwarming reunion between Jessica and Billy, allowing her to step confidently into a new chapter of her life, while Clive, still on the run from the law, faces his own comical misadventures.
