In the quaint town of Norwich, England, on the 18th of December, 1334, a thrilling tale begins to unfold as brave knight Sir Cole Christopher Fredrick Lyons](/actor/josh-whitehouse) and his sibling Geoffrey embark on their annual Christmas hawking competition. While Geoffrey scours the castle grounds in search of their elusive hawk, Cole roams into the woods where a mysterious encounter awaits him. He crosses paths with an enigmatic old crone named Kayela, who he graciously offers to guide to safety. Grateful for his gallantry, she reveals her magical abilities, imparting that she can transport him to a fantastical realm filled with wonders beyond imagination—“flying steel dragons and horses” as well as “magic boxes that make merry.” Before she disappears, Kayela bestows upon him a luminous blue medallion and ominously declares that if he fails to complete his knightly quest by midnight on Christmas Eve, he will never truly earn the title of knight.
Fast forward to 2019, on the same fateful day in Bracebridge, Ohio. Enter the spirited yet love-weary high school science teacher Brooke Winters, who reluctantly agrees to take her niece Claire to the grand opening of the much-anticipated “Christmas Castle.” Unbeknownst to her, this very venue has been magically intertwined with Cole’s destiny. As Cole grapples with the bewilderment of the modern world, he finds himself unexpectedly colliding with Brooke’s vehicle, leading to his hospitalization. Confusion reigns as Officer Stevens, perplexed by the absence of identification and Cole’s insistence on being a medieval knight, presumes that he is simply suffering from amnesia. In a kind gesture, Brooke offers Cole refuge at her guest home during his recovery.
As Cole gradually adapts to contemporary life, he discovers a cornucopia of modern technologies, from the quaint radios to the mesmerizing Alexa. His old-fashioned charm and eccentric mannerisms captivate Brooke’s family and friends, who find amusement in his anachronistic antics. Brooke herself, initially surprised by his claims, grows fond of him and finds herself revealing poignant memories of her late parents and a former lover who left her heartbroken years ago. As they exchange tales from their pasts, Cole embarks on an internal journey to fulfill the quest set forth by Kayela. Notably, he heroically rescues two children endangered on a treacherous frozen lake and captures a crafty pickpocket, yet he continues to feel a deep void within.
The night of December 24 arrives, and Cole aids Brooke in hosting a splendid Christmas feast, amplifying the festive spirit. As the evening unfolds, Cole seeks to understand the significance of the mistletoe tradition, culminating in a tender kiss that illuminates his magical medallion. This moment signifies that he has completed his quest, bringing a bittersweet resolution to their enchanting connection. He walks Brooke back to the Christmas Castle, where their paths must diverge, leaving her with an aching heart as Cole is whisked away back to the 14th century.
Upon his return, Cole arrives just in time to join his brother Geoffrey in a knighting ceremony. Warmly welcomed, he is soon met with the recognition of his own discontent, prompting Geoffrey to encourage him to pursue true happiness with Brooke. Determined, Cole ventures back into the woods in search of Kayela, announcing that he has succeeded in his quest. As fate would have it, the crone reemerges, utilizing her magic to once again transport him, this time back to 2019.
On Christmas Day, Brooke finds solace surrounded by her family, who invite her to join them at the Christmas Castle. It is there that Cole makes a grand entrance, riding atop his majestic horse, Sherwyn. With heartfelt sincerity, he professes his love for Brooke, expressing his desire to remain by her side—a wish she joyfully embraces. Together, they mount Sherwyn and grace the grounds of the castle, eliciting admiration from all who lay eyes on them.
As a delightful post-credits scene unfolds, Geoffrey encounters the old crone once again, who greets him with intrigue and seeks his assistance, mirroring her earlier encounter with Cole. Holding a similar glowing medallion, the scene closes with a promise of adventure for Geoffrey—a foreshadowing that he too will embark on a remarkable quest, echoing the timeless saga initiated by his brother.
