The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot 2019

As the sun sets on 1987, Calvin Barr (Sam Elliott) navigates the twilight of his life with a sense of resignation, his days marked by quiet routine and melancholic nostalgia. Flashbacks of his storied past unfold like a worn photograph, revealing a World War II special ops soldier who successfully executed a high-stakes mission to eliminate Adolf Hitler, only for the operation’s classified nature to leave him feeling hollow and unsatisfied. The years have taken their toll, leaving Barr bitter about the lack of lasting impact from his heroic act.

In the present, Barr’s days are filled with visits to his brother Ed (Larry Miller) at the local barbershop, where he finds solace in small talk and camaraderie. However, his tranquil existence is disrupted by a gang of thugs seeking to pilfer his vehicle, as well as a pair of mysterious government agents who dog him relentlessly. The agents, representing joint American-Canadian interests, reveal that a mysterious virus sweeping the Canadian wilderness has the potential to wipe out all life on Earth. They believe Barr’s unique skills and immunity to the virus make him the only hope for tracking down and eliminating the source: Bigfoot.

With his trusty dog by his side, Barr embarks on a perilous journey into the unforgiving wilderness. He wounds the elusive creature in their first encounter, but it’s only after much determination and tracking that he finally corners the Bigfoot, now dying. Despite feeling pity for its plight, Barr chooses to cremate the beast rather than surrender it to the government, unaware that his mercy will ultimately seal his own fate.

As the battle-scarred Barr lies back, seemingly on the brink of death, the screen fades to a somber funeral scene where his brother delivers a poignant eulogy. Time passes, and Ed goes fishing with Barr’s loyal canine companion. Unbeknownst to all, Barr secretly survives his ordeal, only to reappear and join his brother on the water, their bond strengthened by shared experience.

With his conscience finally at peace after achieving a sense of fulfillment in stopping the potential epidemic, Barr is able to confront the demons of his past. He later exhumes his own coffin to retrieve an old box, its contents a mystery that remains buried alongside him as he walks off into the sunset, his spirit finally at rest.
