Plot Summary

As Police Squad Lieutenant Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) indulges in a well-deserved vacation in Beirut, an unexpected opportunity arises for him to disrupt a clandestine gathering of international adversaries. The unlikely assembly includes notable figures such as Idi Amin, Muammar Gaddafi, Ayatollah Khomeini, Yasser Arafat, Fidel Castro, and Mikhail Gorbachev, all united by their shared desire to orchestrate a terrorist plot aimed at humiliating the United States.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Officer Nordberg is hot on the trail of Vincent Ludwig’s heroin operation, only to find himself gravely injured after being ambushed by Ludwig’s henchmen. As Drebin returns to L.A. and pays a visit to his ailing colleague, he becomes privy to cryptic clues that hint at Ludwig’s involvement in Nordberg’s predicament.

Drebin soon finds himself thrust into the midst of a high-stakes investigation, tasked with solving the case before word gets out and tarnishes the impending royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II. With only 24 hours to clear Nordberg’s name, Drebin visits Ludwig under the guise of inquiry, inadvertently sparking a chain of events that will lead him down a treacherous path.

Ludwig’s sinister plans come into sharp focus as he meets with an enigmatic accomplice from the Beirut meeting to discuss a diabolical plot aimed at silencing the Queen. The cunning businessman agrees to carry out the assassination for a hefty sum of $20 million, relying on his arsenal of mind-controlling beepers and hypnotic suggestions to turn unwitting pawns into deadly assassins.

As Drebin’s investigation continues, he finds himself caught in a web of intrigue, dodging danger at every turn. A comical mishap ensues when Ludwig attempts to eliminate Nordberg by hypnotizing his doctor, only for Drebin to thwart the plan and claim victory.

Undeterred, Drebin decides to take matters into his own hands, breaking into Ludwig’s office in search of incriminating evidence. His actions inadvertently spark a fire that ravages the premises, destroying any tangible proof he might have found. The once-innocent detective is now forced to confront Ludwig at a lavish reception honoring the Queen’s arrival.

In a series of unfortunate events, Drebin misinterprets Ludwig’s presentation of a musket as an attack on the Queen and launches into a futile attempt to protect her, ultimately resulting in his dismissal from Police Squad. As Jane, Ludwig’s unwitting accomplice, begins to question her involvement in the sinister plot, she confides in Drebin about the impending assassination at Anaheim Stadium.

With time running out, Drebin is forced to don a disguise and infiltrate the baseball game, determined to prevent the unthinkable.

As Police Squad descends upon the stadium, Detective Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) takes center stage, detailing the diabolical plot to his colleagues. With calculated precision, he dispatches the home plate umpire, seizing the opportunity to conduct an impromptu weapons search among the players as they take their turns at bat. Ludwig’s sinister scheme is soon set in motion when he activates Reggie Jackson (played by himself), a deadly assassin with a penchant for chaos. Jane, Drebin’s trusty sidekick, alerts him to the threat just as Jackson makes his move against the Queen. With lightning-quick reflexes, Drebin chases down Jackson and takes him down, sparking a bench-clearing brawl that inadvertently allows Jackson to escape.

As Ludwig gains the upper hand, holding Jane hostage while making his getaway, Drebin springs into action once more. In a daring bid to subdue Jackson, he fires a tranquilizer dart, but unfortunately misses his mark, instead hitting a massive woman in the upper deck, causing her to tumble over the railing and land on top of Jackson, effectively neutralizing the threat.

Undeterred, Drebin gives chase as Ludwig makes his way to the stadium’s apex. A well-placed dart later, Ludwig meets his demise, plummeting to the ground below only to be struck by a passing bus, crushed beneath the wheels of a steamroller, and ultimately trampled by the USC marching band. As order is restored, Jane, still under Ludwig’s mind control, attempts to take out Drebin. However, he cleverly breaks her hypnosis by confessing his true feelings and presenting her with an engagement ring.

As a result, Drebin finds himself reinstated to Police Squad, whereupon Nordberg (Ochre), recovering from the chaos, congratulates him on his success. Unfortunately, Drebin’s celebration is short-lived, as he inadvertently sends Nordberg’s wheelchair careening down the stadium stairs and onto the field, leaving both officers in stitches at the absurdity of it all.
