Derek Thompson, portrayed by Dwayne Johnson, is a renowned local ice hockey player known as “The Tooth Fairy” due to his impressive defensive skills on the ice. However, as he faces the reality of aging, newer and younger talents are capturing the spotlight—most notably, a rising star named Mick Donnelly, who continually reminds Derek that his time in the fame game is coming to an end.

Derek is in a relationship with Carly, played by Ashley Judd, who has two children: a boy and a girl. The little girl is thrilled when her tooth falls out, eagerly anticipating the arrival of the tooth fairy to swap it for a dollar. Skeptical about dreams and fantasy, Derek attempts to shatter her enthusiasm by insisting that fairy tales are just that—fairy tales. He believes that fostering such fantasies only leads to disappointment in adulthood. In a moment of tension, Carly steps in to defend her daughter’s belief, criticizing Derek for his harshness.

Everything changes for Derek when he unexpectedly receives a summons from the mysterious Department of Dissemination of Disbelief in Tooth Fairy Land. To his shock, he learns that he must assume the role of a tooth fairy for the next two weeks, facing the risk of extended punishment if he fails to embrace the necessary spirit of the job.

As he reluctantly undertakes his new duties, Derek’s perspective shifts drastically. He begins to embrace the magic surrounding the tooth fairy myth, which helps him grow and evolve into a better person. In a heartwarming turn of events, he even proposes to Carly, and she joyfully accepts his heartfelt offer. The children, too, form a special bond with him during this transformative period, further solidifying Derek’s newfound faith in dreams and the magic of childhood.
