What addiction is Dexter struggling with in 'Weirdsville'?

Plot Summary

In the sleepy Ontario town of Weedsville, Dexter (Scott Speedman) is struggling to shake off his addiction to heroin. His friend Royce (Wes Bentley) tries to offer support, but their camaraderie is put to the test when they receive devastating news: Matilda (Taryn Manning), a mutual acquaintance, has succumbed to an overdose. The blow is softened by the arrival of Omar (Raoul Bheneja), a menacing drug dealer demanding payment for the substances he supplied to Dexter and Royce. Fearing the authorities will be involved, the two decide to bury Matilda in an abandoned drive-in theater. However, their somber task is disrupted by a group of Satan worshipers led by the fanatical Abel (Greg Bryk), who believes Matilda possesses extraordinary powers - particularly evident when she revives and begins fleeing from her would-be executioners.

Abel’s fixation on Matilda prompts him to plan a human sacrifice, but Dexter and Royce intervene, saving their friend and concocting a desperate plan to steal a local businessman’s safe in order to pay off Omar and secure their own survival. Tragedy strikes when Matilda is kidnapped by Abel, leaving Dexter and Royce to face the music - literally, as they’re apprehended by Martin (Jordan Prentice), a bumbling shopping mall security guard who mistakenly believes them to be Moonies on the run.

Martin’s fateful mistake leads to his own kidnapping and brutal torture at the hands of Abel. As Dexter and Royce navigate this treacherous landscape, they stumble upon a safe containing the cash they so desperately need - but it remains locked, its combination known only to Matilda. With their friend in peril, the duo musters the courage to rescue her from Abel’s clutches, aided by an unlikely ally: Martin, now transformed into a band of midget medieval warriors, determined to right the wrongs that have befallen him.
