As Ling (Yeo Yann Yann), a devoted Malaysian Chinese teacher in her late 30s, navigates the challenges of her personal life, she finds solace in the quiet rhythms of her classroom. Her husband Andrew’s (Christopher Lee) frequent absences due to work and his elderly father’s debilitating condition only add to the sense of isolation that pervades their home. Meanwhile, Ling’s own struggles with infertility serve as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life.

Amidst this backdrop of uncertainty, Ling’s path intersects with Kok Wei Lun (Koh Jia Ler), a talented but injured wushu practitioner who is forced to rely on crutches for support. As she takes him in and offers her guidance, Ling begins to sense a deeper connection forming between them. Her act of kindness is met with ridicule by Wei Lun’s classmates when he remains behind after school to share a bag of durians she had brought from her brother’s stall. However, this shared moment marks the beginning of an unlikely bond between Ling and Wei Lun.

As their relationship blossoms, Wei Lun becomes increasingly dependent on Ling’s remedial classes, and eventually finds himself drawn into the intimate world of her family. He invites Ling and her father-in-law to attend a national wushu competition where he ultimately takes home the gold medal. The trio’s triumphant celebration is marked by a visit to Ling’s brother’s durian shop, where they forge an unbreakable bond that transcends the boundaries of teacher and student, family and friend.

As Ling’s father-in-law passes away peacefully in his sleep, a somber reality sets in for her family. The wake serves as a catalyst for Ling’s siblings-in-law to decide the fate of their deceased patriarch’s property, forcing Ling to confront a web of deceit and betrayal. Her world is turned upside down when she discovers Andrew (actor name) has been unfaithful, with his mistress and son paying respects at the funeral. Feeling isolated and without support, Ling finds solace in an unlikely friendship with Wei Lun, whom she gives a ride home to after his wake.

As they grow closer, Wei Lun’s advances become increasingly inappropriate, and despite her reservations, Ling gives in to their physical desires. However, as their affair intensifies, Wei Lun’s behavior becomes more erratic, leading Ling to feel uneasy and trapped. Her distress is compounded by the fact that their relationship has been exposed by the school principal, who advises Ling to take a break from work to avoid complicating his own promotion.

The climax of this tumultuous period comes when Ling confronts Wei Lun in her car, telling him they must end their affair. A heartbroken Wei Lun exits the vehicle, and Ling chases after him into an open field, where he clings to her tearfully before she tells him to grow accustomed to rejection. As the aftermath of this painful episode settles, Ling’s marriage to Andrew disintegrates, with her former husband’s lawyer revealing a clause that would absolve him of paternal responsibilities if Ling were to become pregnant using his frozen sperm.

Ling’s pregnancy, confirmed through a surprise home test, sends her emotions into a tailspin. As she navigates the complexities of single motherhood-to-be and an uncertain future, she finds solace in her hometown of Taiping, Malaysia. Standing outside, gazing up at the sun that had seemed to elude her during her time in Singapore, Ling begins to find a sense of peace and acceptance amidst the turmoil that has ravaged her life.
