Anthony Chen

Anthony Chen (born 18 April 1984) is an exceptional Singaporean film director, screenwriter and film producer. Chen is acknowledged for his directing prowess on films like 'Ilo Ilo' (2013) and 'Wet Season' (2019). He initiated his career with 'G-23', a film that attracted international acclaim in France, Korea, and Belgium. Chen's early works in 2007 and 2008, including 'Ah Ma' and 'Haze', received favorable criticism, particularly the former which was the first Singaporean film to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival.

His much-lauded debut feature film 'Ilo Ilo' not only won the Camera d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival but also brought him Achievement in Directing at the 2013 Asia Pacific Screen Awards, and the Golden Horse Award for Best Narrative Feature, Best New Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Success continued following him as his short film contribution to the anthology 'The Year Of The Everlasting Storm', called 'The Break Away' (2021), also received a selection at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. As an executive producer and writer, Chen worked on the 'omnibus film' 'Distance'(2015). His second feature film 'Wet Season' (2018) earned him six Golden Horse Awards nominations. Chen also wrapped up on 'The Breaking Ice' in 2022, which was his first Chinese feature film. He then moved on to helm 'Secret Daughter' with Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sienna Miller in 2022 and his first English-language feature, 'Drift' saw its premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
