Unfortunately, the celebration turns dark when Death Eaters invade the campsite, and the mysterious man from Harry’s dream conjures the Dark Mark, sowing fear.

Back at Hogwarts, Professor Dumbledore announces that the school will host the illustrious Triwizard Tournament, in collaboration with the Durmstrang Institute from Eastern Europe and the Beauxbatons Academy from France. A student from each institution will be chosen by the magical Goblet of Fire to compete, but only those over the age of seventeen are eligible. The Goblet selects Fleur Delacour for Beauxbatons, Viktor Krum for Durmstrang, and Cedric for Hogwarts, but to everyone’s shock, it also chooses Harry as a fourth Champion. This unexpected turn of events ignites suspicion among his peers, with many accusing him of cheating. Feeling betrayed, Ron chooses to distance himself from Harry, hurt that Harry never revealed his apparent entry into the tournament. However, Harry has no choice but to compete due to the binding magical contract activated by his name being drawn.

In the first task, the Champions face a daunting challenge where they must procure a golden egg from a fierce dragon. The new Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor, Professor Moody, discreetly suggests that Harry can use his wand to summon his beloved broomstick, which proves advantageous. All four Champions manage to retrieve their eggs, leading to a reconciliation between Ron and Harry, who witnesses firsthand the perilous nature of the competition.

As Christmas approaches, Hogwarts hosts the enchanting Yule Ball. Unfortunately, Harry and Ron end up with Parvati and Padma Patil instead of their dream dates. In a surprising twist, Hermione attends with Viktor, igniting Ron’s jealousy. Seeking guidance, Cedric suggests Harry take a bath in the Prefects’ bathroom to better understand the egg’s mystery.

During the second task, the Champions dive into the depths of the Black Lake to rescue a person they hold dear. For Harry, it means rescuing Ron, while Cedric must save his girlfriend Cho Chang, Viktor is tasked with rescuing Hermione, and Fleur embarks on a mission to save her sister, Gabrielle. With the help of gillyweed from Neville Longbottom, Harry successfully navigates the waters, finishing second in the task after also rescuing Gabrielle when Fleur has to withdraw.

Tragedy strikes when Harry discovers the corpse of Barty Crouch Sr., a prominent official from the Ministry of Magic, in the Forbidden Forest. In a chilling sequence, Harry views the memories of a Pensieve in Dumbledore’s office, revealing an interrogation of Igor Karkaroff, the current head of Durmstrang. Under pressure, Karkaroff names several Death Eaters connected to Voldemort, including Severus Snape, who is defended by Dumbledore. The mention of Barty Crouch Jr. sends shivers down Harry’s spine, connecting his current ordeal to his previous nightmares.

The climax of the tournament arrives in the third task, where the Champions must navigate a perilous maze to reach the coveted Triwizard Cup. Harry and Cedric overcome numerous obstacles only to uncover that the Cup is a Portkey, transporting them to a graveyard from Harry’s dream. In a horrific act, Pettigrew murders Cedric under Voldemort’s orders, who then uses Harry’s blood to resurrect himself. The scene turns gruesome as Voldemort inflicts pain on Harry before casting the Killing Curse, which Harry miraculously repels. The spirits of Voldemort’s past victims, including Harry’s parents, intervene just long enough for Harry to escape with Cedric’s lifeless body.

Harry bravely shares the terrible news of Cedric’s murder and Voldemort’s return with Dumbledore. But, soon afterward, he is taken by Moody to his office, only to learn that it was Moody who manipulated the tournament to ensure Voldemort’s return. As Moody prepares to harm Harry, Dumbledore, Snape, and Minerva McGonagall arrive just in time to subdue him. Using Veritaserum, they uncover the shocking truth: Barty Crouch Jr. had been impersonating Moody with Polyjuice Potion, and the real Moody is imprisoned in a magical trunk.

At the end-of-term feast, Dumbledore bravely announces that Voldemort is responsible for Cedric’s death, though the Ministry of Magic refuses to accept this truth. As Harry recounts his chilling encounter with Voldemort, Dumbledore explains the phenomenon of Priori Incantatem. With the harsh reality of loss settling in, Harry, Ron, and Hermione come to terms with the fact that their lives will never be the same as they bid farewell to their rivals from the other schools.
