Plot Summary

Hutch Mansell, portrayed by Bob Odenkirk, lives a mundane life, grappling with a strained marriage to Becca, played by Connie Nielsen. Together they have two children, Blake (Gage Munroe) and Abby (Paisley Cadorath), and Hutch juggles an unremarkable office job.

One fateful night, his world is turned upside down when intruders break into their home. Although Hutch initially prepares to defend his family, he ultimately hesitates, allowing the thieves to escape. Blake even manages to grab one of them, but Hutch asks his son to let the thief go, revealing his conflicted sense of morality. It becomes apparent that the world views Hutch as a failure. However, he confides in his brother Harry about why he held back—the burglars were armed with an unloaded weapon.

Amidst this personal turmoil, Hutch’s father-in-law Eddie (Michael Ironside) becomes involved in his life, pushing him to take a stand. Eddie’s son Charlie (Billy MacLellan) even offers Hutch a gun for protection, but Hutch declines. He had initially intended to buy out Eddie’s business but found the deal lacking.

As the plot thickens, Hutch’s daughter discovers that her bracelet is missing, prompting Hutch to suspect the previous night’s burglars. His investigation leads him to a tattoo parlor, where he learns the identity of the thieves. However, he soon realizes they are not in possession of the bracelet, and the sight of their ailing baby strikes a sympathetic chord within him.

In a shocking turn of events, Hutch confronts a group of thugs on a bus, unleashing a brutal beating on them. Returning home, he is bandaged by Becca, who is aware of his enigmatic past. Unfortunately, this action has dire consequences, as one of his attackers, Teddy, is the brother of Yulian Kuznetsov (Aleksey Serebryakov), a vicious Russian crime lord. Yulian’s connections lead him straight to Hutch, putting his family in jeopardy.

With the stakes rising, Harry warns Hutch of the impending danger, urging him to seek out The Barber (Colin Salmon), Hutch’s former government handler. Taking matters into his own hands, Hutch conceals his family and retaliates against the attackers. It is revealed that Hutch was once an “auditor”—an assassin for intelligence agencies. This twilight past haunts him, as he had once let a target go free, hoping to lead a normal life thereafter.

Desperate to protect his family, Hutch armors himself with gold and cash, later discovering the long-lost bracelet under the couch. He burns down his house to conceal evidence of the violence and seizes his neighbor’s classic Dodge Challenger to make his escape. Meanwhile, his own father David (Christopher Lloyd) surprises everyone by swiftly dispatching two assassins sent to eliminate Hutch.

In a twist of fate, Hutch employs the gold to purchase his father-in-law’s metal fabrication factory, wherein he incinerates Yulian’s stash of stolen funds. Intent on hoarding power, he booby traps the factory to prepare for a confrontation.

When Yulian and his men surround Hutch, he attempts to broker peace by suggesting retirement in a more serene Caribbean locale. However, Yulian is unwilling to back down, leading to a ruthless showdown. As bullets fly in the factory, Hutch finds unexpected support from his brother Harry (The RZA) and father, which turns the tide in his favor.

Utilizing a range of deadly traps he meticulously set up, Hutch eliminates Yulian’s crew alongside Harry and David. Though he faces arrest, mysterious circumstances lead to his release without charges. Three months later, while house-hunting with Becca, Hutch receives a call that hints at his past life needing his skills once again.

This gripping tale explores themes of redemption, family, and the facades we wear, blending action with deep emotional undertones.
