In Winter 1974, a young Thaddeus Sivana and his older brother are headed home with their father when Thaddeus’s play with a magic 8 ball unexpectedly transports him to the Rock of Eternity. Here, he encounters a powerful wizard who introduces him to mystical statues embodying the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, and Sloth. As the last member of a council of seven, the wizard has spent centuries seeking a worthy champion. During a purity test, Thaddeus attempts to touch the eye of envy but fails, resulting in his return to the car where he causes a commotion that leads to a tragic accident for his family. The magic 8 ball ominously reads “find me.”
Fast forward to modern-day, we meet Billy Batson. While at a carnival with his mother, he loses a pendant and, in the chase after it, gets separated and eventually picked up by the police. He is then placed in a foster home with the Vasquez family, consisting of other siblings including Eugene, Darla, Pedro, Mary, and Freddy.
In a twist of fate, Dr. Sivana becomes obsessed with uncovering the source of his childhood visions, leading him to the wizard’s lair. After gruesome confrontations at his workplace, where he unleashes his quest for power and the deadly sins, he becomes a formidable adversary.
At school, Billy finds himself adjusting to his new life with his foster siblings. Despite initial struggles, he soon discovers his ability to transform into the superhero Shazam after encountering the wizard’s direct intervention.
