Upon reaching a floating atoll in search of dirt—a rare and precious commodity—the Mariner is met with hostility. The inhabitants, terrified of his mutant nature, vote to dispose of him in a toxic brine pool, showcasing the desperation of their circumstances.

Pirate Raiders Attack

A violent invasion occurs when pirate raiders known as the Smokers descend upon the atoll, driven by the search for an orphan girl named Enola. Unbeknownst to the Mariner, Enola holds a vital map to the elusive Dryland tattooed on her back, making her a prime target.
