Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer Daanish Ali enjoys a seemingly perfect life with his wife Ruhana and their young daughter Noorie. However, everything changes dramatically when, during a drive with Noorie, Daanish spots a notorious terrorist, Farooq Rameez, and gives chase. In a tragic turn of events, Rameez and his gang ambush Daanish’s car, resulting in Noorie’s death while Rameez manages to escape. This devastating event tears the family apart; Ruhana, overwhelmed by grief, holds Daanish responsible for their daughter’s death, cutting him out of her life completely.

In his despair, Daanish moves in with his friend and fellow officer, Sartaj, who gives him sleeping pills to numb his pain. Yet, he overhears Sartaj discussing Rameez’s whereabouts with their superior, SP. Overcome with anguish, Daanish tracks Rameez down during a police operation and engages in a shootout, ultimately killing the terrorist. However, the ATS higher-ups are furious because they intended to capture Rameez alive to uncover a politician he was believed to be meeting in Delhi. As a result, Daanish is forced onto medical leave.

At his daughter’s grave, Daanish nearly succumbs to his grief before he notices a mysterious van that drives away upon his shout. He finds a wallet nearby, which leads him to Pandit Omkar Nath Dhar, a wheelchair-bound chess master who reveals himself to be Noorie’s chess instructor. As the two bond over chess, Pandit shares his own sorrow about his late daughter, Nina, who previously taught chess to Ruhi, the daughter of Welfare Minister Yazaad Qureshi. Nina’s tragic death, ruled an accident by the authorities, was rumored to have been caused by less than honorable circumstances involving Qureshi.

Daanish investigates and learns that Qureshi and Ruhi narrowly survived a terrorist attack in their village in Kashmir, post which Qureshi became a symbol of peace in politics. When Daanish seeks an audience with Qureshi, he encounters senior police officials instead, who threaten to arrest him if he persists. Refusing to give up, Daanish continues his quest, trying to connect with Ruhana, but she rebuffs him.

Meanwhile, the Pandit encourages Ruhana to engage with a dance-drama that Nina had written for her class. Daanish’s quest leads him to Ruhi at school, where he discovers a sketch of Nina. Tensions rise when Qureshi learns of Daanish’s inquiries, and the police dismiss Nina’s case despite the Pandit’s insistence that it warrants further attention. In an act of defiance, the Pandit confronts Qureshi, igniting a series of violent events, including an assassination attempt on him.

Amidst growing determination, Daanish persuades Sartaj to tap Qureshi’s phone. With threats from Wazir, an assassin sent by Qureshi, looming over them, the stakes escalate as Daanish races to save the Pandit. Despite a perilous chase, Daanish arrives too late to save the Pandit from a devastating attack, igniting a fire of vengeance within him.

Daanish travels to Kashmir, planning to confront Qureshi during a public event. As chaos erupts among Qureshi’s supporters due to a sudden explosion, Daanish seizes the opportunity to confront Qureshi. In a tense standoff, Daanish learns from Ruhi the dark truth about her supposed father’s past, revealing that Qureshi is not the man he pretended to be. Realizing Qureshi’s direct link to Nina’s death, Daanish shoots him dead, avenging both his daughter and the Pandit’s lost child.

In the aftermath, while watching a poignant performance of the Pandit’s dance-drama, Daanish uncovers the mastermind behind his ordeal—the Pandit had orchestrated their encounter, using the metaphor of chess to maneuver events to ensure Daanish would avenge their shared tragedies. With the truth of the Pandit’s sacrifice and manipulation unveiled, Daanish and Ruhana find a path towards healing and reconciliation.
