Daanish Ali (Farhan Akhtar) lived a life filled with joy and contentment, surrounded by his loving wife Ruhana (Aditi Rao Hydari) and their young daughter Noorie. However, in an instant, Daanish's world was shattered when he witnessed a known terrorist, Farooq Rameez, fleeing the scene after a high-speed chase. The ensuing firefight resulted in Noorie's tragic demise, leaving Daanish reeling with guilt and grief.

Ruhana's anguish over her daughter's death became all-consuming, and she distanced herself from Daanish, unable to forgive him for his perceived failure to protect their child. Crushed by the weight of his own inadequacy, Daanish retreated to the home of his friend and colleague Sartaj, seeking solace in the familiar comforts of friendship.

Sartaj's well-intentioned efforts to ease Daanish's pain included prescribing him sleeping pills, but Daanish's insomnia proved more stubborn than anticipated. As he lay awake, he overheard snippets of a conversation between Sartaj and their superior, SP (John Abraham), which sparked a fleeting sense of purpose within him. Without hesitation, Daanish arrived at the location where Rameez was being pursued by police, initiating a fierce gun battle that ultimately claimed the terrorist's life.

The consequences of Daanish's actions were severe, as his superiors expressed their outrage and disappointment over his decision to take matters into his own hands. Ordered to take a medical leave, Daanish felt lost and adrift, his grief and guilt threatening to consume him entirely.

It was during this dark period that Daanish found himself standing at Noorie's grave, grappling with the abyss of despair. As he teetered on the edge of self-destruction, a mysterious van appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, only to vanish as suddenly as it had arrived. Amidst the chaos and confusion, Daanish stumbled upon a forgotten wallet, its contents revealing an address that would change the course of his life forever.

The owner of the wallet, a wheelchair-bound chess master named Pandit Omkar Nath Dhar (Amitabh Bachchan), held secrets and stories that would unravel the tangled threads of Noorie's life. As Daanish delved deeper into the mysteries surrounding Pandit's past, he discovered a shared tragedy with the chess master: the loss of their respective daughters to senseless violence.

As Pandit began to impart his wisdom and teachings to Daanish, the ATS officer found himself drawn into a world of strategy and wit. In this new environment, Daanish was forced to confront the harsh realities of his own existence, as well as the mysteries surrounding Noorie's untimely demise.

As the Pandit remains convinced that Nina's death was no mere coincidence, the Delhi police persist in their belief that Qureshi's version of events is the only truth. Daanish becomes increasingly fascinated by the enigmatic figure of Qureshi, whose past as a survivor of a terrorist attack on his village in Kashmir and subsequent rise to prominence as a champion of peace has left an indelible mark. His curiosity piqued, Daanish pays a visit to Qureshi's office, only to be met by a coterie of senior police officials who issue him a stern warning: trouble the minister at your own peril. Undeterred, Daanish attempts to gain an audience with Ruhana, but finds her house securely locked against him. Frustrated but not defeated, he turns to the Pandit for solace, and together they engage in a spirited game of vodka-fueled chess - a contest that ultimately yields a triumphant victory for Daanish.

Inspired by this newfound sense of purpose, the Pandit approaches Ruhana with an unexpected proposal: help his class of students complete the dance-drama written by Nina, a gesture that will serve as a testament to her memory. Meanwhile, Daanish seeks out Ruhi at her school, where he pores over her sketchbook and discovers a haunting drawing of Nina. His questions about her whereabouts on the fateful night of Nina's death are met with an abrupt departure by Ruhi, accompanied by her watchful minder.

As Ruhana rehearses for the drama, the Pandit shares with Daanish the poignant tale of his own recent loss - the sudden passing of his wife in a tragic driving accident, leaving him bereft of anyone to share his grief. Against this backdrop of personal sorrow, Qureshi issues Ruhi a chilling warning: never again engage with Daanish. The police, meanwhile, quietly close Nina's case file, prompting the Pandit to stage a dramatic protest.

That night, as Qureshi's cavalcade makes its way through the city, the Pandit takes matters into his own hands, hurling his shoe at the minister's car in a symbolic act of defiance. The red beacon on Qureshi's vehicle is shattered by the Pandit's bold gesture. In the aftermath, Wazir (Neil Nitin Mukesh), an assassin dispatched by Qureshi, launches a brutal attack on the Pandit, leaving him badly injured and his wheelchair - along with his cherished chess set - reduced to ashes.

As the Pandit nurses his wounds, Wazir issues a menacing warning: cease your pursuit of Qureshi at once. Daanish, undeterred by these threats, convinces Sartaj to tap into Qureshi's phone line, determined to uncover the truth behind Nina's death. As Qureshi travels to Kashmir, Wazir continues to taunt Daanish with repeated phone calls, pressuring him to abandon his investigation and allowing Qureshi's secrets to remain shrouded in mystery.

As Daanish's abode becomes a sanctuary for rekindling the fervent emotions between Ruhaana and himself, the Pandit seizes the opportunity to vanish into thin air, departing quietly from the residence to embark on a clandestine journey to Kashmir. Wazir, however, has other plans, and a chilling phone call to Daanish reveals the Pandit's true intentions: a perilous trip to the war-torn region. With his pulse racing, Daanish sets out in hot pursuit of the Pandit, finally bringing him to a halt just as Wazir triggers a devastating explosion that reduces the vehicle to smoldering ruins. Consumed by a burning desire for vengeance against Qureshi and an insatiable curiosity about Wazir's true identity, Daanish hastens to Srinagar, where he crosses paths with the stoic SP (John Abraham). Together, they concoct a plan to infiltrate Qureshi's inner circle during a rousing speech.

As the SP detonates explosives amidst Qureshi's devoted followers, chaos erupts, and the SP valiantly holds off an onslaught of commandos, buying Daanish precious time. With the perfect window of opportunity presented, Daanish hotwires his way into Qureshi's sanctum sanctorum, demanding to know Wazir's whereabouts - only to be met with a vehement denial from Qureshi himself. But just as all hope seems lost, Ruhi, Qureshi's supposed daughter, emerges from the shadows, her eyes brimming with tears as she reveals the horrific truth: Qureshi is not her biological father, but rather one of the ruthless militants who brutally slaughtered her entire village and assumed the role of patriarch when Indian Army troops arrived to restore order. Ruhi had confided in Nina about this dark secret, only for Qureshi to silence Nina forever by precipitously pushing her down the stairs. The revelation sends Daanish's moral compass reeling as he pieces together a sinister puzzle: Rameez had traveled to Delhi to rendezvous with Qureshi, and with his finger poised on the trigger, Daanish takes aim at the heart of evil, ending Qureshi's reign of terror once and for all.

As the vibrant colors and rhythmic beats of the Pandit's dance-drama performance fade into memory, Daanish (character name) undergoes a profound epiphany. The seemingly benevolent spiritual leader, who had formed an unlikely bond with Daanish himself, is revealed to be a cunning pawn in a much larger game. Like a chess piece strategically moved across the board, the Pandit's actions were mere pawns in the hands of a master strategist - none other than Daanish (character name). The truth dawns on Daanish that the Pandit was merely a weak link in a carefully constructed plan to bring down the ruthless Qureshi.

With newfound purpose, Daanish hastens to Pammi's humble abode, seeking answers and insight into the enigmatic Wazir's supposed attack on the Pandit. Pammi, the faithful housekeeper, provides a crucial piece of evidence - a USB drive cleverly disguised as a queen chess piece - which holds the key to unraveling the mystery. The video footage reveals the Pandit's ingenious plan, crafted with precision and calculation. It becomes clear that Wazir was never more than a persona, a fictional alter ego created by the Pandit to manipulate Daanish into taking revenge against Qureshi.

The Pandit's seemingly brutal knife wounds are revealed to be nothing more than a desperate act of self-sacrifice, a calculated move designed to ensure Daanish would ultimately take up the mantle of justice and vanquish the evil that had haunted him for so long. The Pandit's clever plan, rooted in his deep understanding of human psychology, relied on his ability to engineer a series of events that would culminate in Daanish's ultimate triumph over Qureshi.

As the truth begins to sink in, Daanish and Ruhana are reunited, their bond strengthened by the shared experience and newfound understanding. The Pandit's selfless sacrifice has paved the way for redemption, and the two former adversaries now stand united against the forces of darkness that once threatened to consume them.
