Barbara Lynn Herzstein, better known as Barbara Hershey, is an acclaimed American actress with a career spanning over 50 years. Born on February 5, 1948, Hershey has demonstrated her talent in a variety of roles both on television and in cinema, with a diverse filmography featuring westerns, comedies, and serious dramas. She began her acting journey at age 17 in 1965, gradually achieving widespread acclaim by the 1980s, and since then, has been referred to by the Chicago Tribune as one of America's finest actresses.

Hershey has won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for Outstanding Lead Actress in 'A Killing in a Small Town' (1990). She has also received Golden Globe nominations for her roles in 'The Last Temptation of Christ' (1988) and 'The Portrait of a Lady' (1996). For the latter, she was further nominated for an Academy Award and won the Los Angeles Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress. She enjoyed success at the Cannes Film Festival too, winning two Best Actress awards for films 'Shy People' (1987) and 'A World Apart' (1988). Besides innovating in film, Hershey has left her mark on television, appearing in 22 episodes of the medical drama 'Chicago Hope'. Hershey is still active, delivering a noteworthy performance in the psychological thriller 'Black Swan' (2010) and participating in the medical drama 'Chicago Hope' between 1999 and 2000.
