Brendan Gleeson

**Brendan Gleeson** is an acclaimed Irish actor and film director, who was born on 29 March 1955. Gleeson has had a distinguished career in acting with several accolades to his name including a Primetime Emmy Award, two British Independent Film Awards, three IFTA Awards, and nominations for an Academy Award, three BAFTA Awards and five Golden Globe Awards. In 2020, he was listed at number 18 on The Irish Times list of Ireland's greatest film actors. Gleeson has skills in both supporting and leading roles in acclaimed films such as 'Braveheart', '28 Days Later', 'Gangs of New York', and the 'Harry Potter' film series, and his portrayal of Winston Churchill in 'Into the Storm' earning him an Emmy Award. Gleeson started his film career at the relatively late age of 34, firstly drawing attention in Ireland for his role as Michael Collins in 'The Treaty' and going on to feature in a string of successful films. His role in 'The General' gained critical acclaim as he portrayed Irish gangster Martin Cahill in the John Boorman's film. He has lent his voice in animated series 'Wilde Stories' and film 'The Secret of Kells', and played the intriguing parts of Barty Crouch Jr and Alastor Moody in the Harry Potter series. Alongside acting, Gleeson also showcases his skills as a fiddle and mandolin player, contributing his musical talents to his roles in 'Cold Mountain', 'Michael Collins', 'The Grand Seduction', and 'The Banshees of Inisherin'.
