Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt (/ˈlɛvɪt/; born February 17, 1981) is an acclaimed American actor who has received a multitude of accolades, including Golden Globe nominations for his performances in 500 Days of Summer (2009) and 50/50 (2011). He is also the founder of the online media platform HitRecord, which had won him two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Interactive Program. Born into a Jewish family in Los Angeles, he entered the acting scene as a child, appearing in films such as A River Runs Through It (1992), Holy Matrimony (1994), and Angels in the Outfield (1994). He has a memorable role in the TV series 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996–2001). In addition to his extensive acting work, he has also directed and written films and series. Notably, he wrote and directed Don Jon, a critically acclaimed comedy-drama film that earned him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best First Screenplay in 2013. Personal lifewise, he is married to Tasha McCauley, the CEO of a tech company, and together they have three children.
