The Lookout Quiz: Test your knowledge about the emotional and thrilling journey of Chris Pratt in 'The Lookout'.

What traumatic event alters Chris's life in the beginning of the movie?

Plot Summary

As Chris Pratt’s (Chris Pratt) convertible glides effortlessly down a serene country highway, the summer night air is alive with the ethereal glow of fireflies. With Kelly by his side and another couple in tow, Chris’ momentary lapse in judgment results in a catastrophic collision with a stalled combine, leaving two lives lost and his own world irreparably altered. The aftermath sees Chris struggling to reconcile his newfound brain damage, which hampers his short-term memory in a manner akin to anterograde amnesia, alongside simmering anger management issues that threaten to boil over at any moment.

Four arduous years later, Chris finds himself enrolled in a series of classes designed to help him compensate for his cognitive impairments. Simple tasks like sequencing daily routines become an uphill battle, and he relies on the comforting familiarity of a small notebook to keep track of his thoughts. As he navigates this new reality, Chris is confronted by a formidable case manager who dares him to build a life despite his injuries. Amidst the emotional turmoil, he finds solace in the unwavering support of his roommate, Lewis, a blind individual whose resilience is a beacon of hope.

As Chris’s nights are spent scrubbing the floors of a small-town bank, a routine punctuated by regular visits from Ted, a sheriff’s deputy, he becomes increasingly fixated on training as a teller. However, his aspirations are met with disdain by Mr. Tuttle, the bank manager, who seems determined to suffocate Chris’ dreams under a shroud of condescension.

Meanwhile, Chris’s life becomes entwined with that of Gary, a gang leader hell-bent on robbing the very same bank where Chris works. This chance encounter rekindles an old rivalry between Chris and Gary, whose resentment towards Chris’ pre-accident wealth and popularity as a hockey star still simmers. As part of their scheme, Gary uses Luvlee, a captivating young woman, to manipulate Chris into joining their nefarious plans.

Chris’ frustration with his newfound limitations gradually gives way to confrontations with his closest friends, Lewis and Ted, whose unwavering support is put to the test as he becomes increasingly embroiled in the gang’s machinations. As the stakes grow higher, Chris must confront the harsh realities of his new life and decide whether to succumb to the taunts of those around him or forge a path towards redemption.

As the gang converges on the bank, Chris reveals his sudden change of heart, only to be met with a forceful reminder that it’s too late. The robbers commandeer him at gunpoint, compelling him to empty the vault as Ted, his friend and deputy, stumbles into the chaotic scene, arriving with a tray of doughnuts in hand. In the ensuing shootout, Ted, alongside two of the gang members, Marty and Cork, meet their demise. Meanwhile, Chris makes his escape, only to return compulsively to the site of his devastating accident, where he impulsively buries the pilfered loot roadside. Gary’s condition worsens, leaving him seriously wounded as he escapes with Bone, one of the remaining bank robbers.

Upon returning to his apartment, Chris is met with an unsettling discovery - the lights are on, and a sense of foreboding settles over him. A phone call reveals that Gary and Bone have taken Lewis hostage, demanding the return of their ill-gotten gains. With his newfound sequencing skills, Chris concocts a plan to outwit his captors and save his friend from certain doom. However, the robbers catch Chris off guard at the agreed-upon meeting spot, forcing him to lead them to the buried treasure.

As Chris digs through the snow-covered terrain to retrieve the loot, Gary’s condition rapidly deteriorates. In a desperate bid to save Lewis, Chris hands one of the two bags to Bone, who is poised to execute his hostage. However, Chris seizes an opportunity, using the shotgun he had cleverly stashed in the other bag to take down Bone before he can react. With Bone defeated and Gary’s life fading away, Chris returns the stolen money and surrenders to authorities.

In the aftermath of the ordeal, a thorough investigation by the FBI concludes that Chris was not responsible for his actions due to his medical condition - and the robbers’ critical oversight in failing to disable the bank’s surveillance cameras. As Chris and Lewis reconcile, they pool their resources to open a restaurant together, courtesy of a loan from the very same institution that had been robbed.

Chris holds out hope that Kelly will forgive him for the devastating loss of her leg in the accident, and that one day he will muster the courage to reconnect with her once more.
