Wilee, portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, navigates the bustling streets of New York City as a bicycle messenger, sharing his life with his ex-girlfriend, Vanessa. One day, Vanessa’s roommate, Nima, played by Jamie Chung, entrusts Wilee with an important delivery: a token—specifically, a used movie ticket stub adorned with a smiley face. This token represents Nima’s hard-earned savings of $50,000, intended for Mr. Leung, a Chinese hawaladar. This money is essential for securing a spot for Nima’s family on one of Sister Chen’s ships that smuggle individuals from China to the United States.

Enter Bobby Monday, a desperate NYPD officer played by Michael Shannon. He finds himself deep in debt to Mr. Lin, a local loan shark who operates a gambling den. Mr. Lin, savvy and well-connected, learns about Nima’s ticket and proposes a trade: he will clear Monday’s debt if he can obtain the valuable token. Intrigued, Monday begins to track down Nima, who soon gets wind of his intentions. With urgency, she hires Wilee to ensure the envelope containing the ticket reaches Sister Chen before 7 P.M.

As Wilee embarks on his mission, things take a perilous turn. Monday confronts Nima, coercing her for information about the delivery and inadvertently learning about Wilee’s involvement. Just as Wilee prepares to drop off the envelope, he runs into Nima, who reveals the truth behind her request for his services—Vanessa had always considered Wilee to be an exceptional courier. Stricken by guilt, Wilee changes his course, racing against time and his rival, Manny, who unwittingly picks up the envelope intended for Sister Chen.

In a whirlwind of chaotic events, Wilee and Manny engage in a high-speed chase, all while a police officer from earlier tries to apprehend them. The tense situation escalates when Wilee is hit by a taxi, drawing him and Monday into an ambulance together, where tensions rise once again as Monday uses intimidation to extract the envelope from Wilee.

However, with the help of Vanessa and a few clever maneuvers, Wilee manages to evade Monday and gets to Sister Chen at the last possible moment, just as Nima signals from afar, hoping for a chance at freedom for her family. The situation peaks dramatically as Monday confronts Wilee one final time, threatening violence. Just then, Vanessa arrives with backup, allowing Wilee the crucial seconds to complete his delivery as the clock strikes 7 PM, securing Nima’s family’s passage.

In the aftermath, Nima receives a heartfelt call confirming her family’s safe boarding on the ship, and gratitude overflows as she embraces Vanessa. As the day closes, a touching moment unfolds between Wilee and Vanessa, sealing their bond amidst the whirlwind of events.
