Charles Robert Redford Jr. (born August 18, 1936) is an American actor and filmmaker. He has received numerous accolades such as an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, as well as the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 1994, and more. Time magazine named him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2014. Redford's acting career began in the late 1950s, stepping onto the stage and on television screens. His on-screen success started with movies like 'Barefoot in the Park', 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid', and 'The Candidate'.

Later, Redford gained recognition as a director, kicking off with the film 'Ordinary People' in 1980, which won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. His directorial career led him to produce classics such as 'A River Runs Through It' and 'Quiz Show'. In the recent years, Redford appeared in various roles, one of which includes the Marvel Studios superhero film Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame.

Redford has shown a deep concern for political causes, environmentalism, and the arts. In 1981, he founded the Sundance Institute, which became known for its support to independent filmmaking. By 2018, Robert Redford announced his retirement from acting, wrapping up his illustrious career. However, he regretted his announcement, stating that 'you never know'.
