Tommy Wirkola, a distinguished Norwegian film director, writer, and actor, has an impressive portfolio that spans various genres. Born on 6 December 1979, he is of Sami-Finnish ancestry. Wirkola's breakthrough came with the 2007 film, Kill Buljo, which was co-written with Stig Frode Henriksen. This partnership continued to have success, with the highly-appreciated 2009 horror comedy Dead Snow. He again teamed up with Henriksen in 2010 to create the film Kurt Josef Wagle and the Legend of the Fjord Witch. The year 2012 saw the premiere of Hellfjord, a television series directed and produced by Wirkola. Consisting of seven 30-minute episodes, the show was testament to his versatility as a director. Venturing into English-language cinema, Wirkola directed his first large-budget film, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters in 2013. Co-written with Dante Harper, the movie saw worldwide appreciation. Wirkola's Dead Snow was followed by a sequel, Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead, which released in 2014. His repertoire continued to expand with releases of What Happened to Monday in 2017, starring Noomi Rapace and Willem Dafoe, The Trip in 2021, and most recently, Violent Night in December 2022.
