Plot Summary

In the ancient civilization of Egypt, around 3600 BC, a powerful mutant named En Sabah Nur (Oscar Isaac) held dominion over the land. As his physical body began to succumb to the ravages of time, Nur found himself facing an existential crisis. His formidable abilities, including telekinesis, cyberpathy, teleportation, and the capacity to augment the powers of other mutants, seemed futile against the inevitability of death.

In a desperate attempt to cheat fate, Nur’s consciousness was transferred into another individual, a young mutant who possessed a remarkable healing factor. This would grant Nur immortality, allowing him to transcend mortality and continue his reign over Egypt. However, this plan was foiled by treachery, as conspirators brutally cut off the transfer process midway, leaving Nur trapped in limbo.

As his followers, the Horsemen of Apocalypse, fell victim to the treacherous plot, Nur found himself entombed alive within a collapsing pyramid. In a final act of defiance, one of his loyal followers managed to encase Nur’s new body in a protective casket and shield it from the impending destruction, but not before the ancient structure succumbed to the weight of its own collapse.

Centuries passed, and the world forgot the legend of En Sabah Nur. However, a devoted cult dedicated to his worship persisted, working tirelessly to uncover the secrets of his tomb. It wasn’t until 1983 that their tireless efforts finally paid off, as they inadvertently shone sunlight upon the collapsed tomb, completing the transfer of Nur’s consciousness into his new body.

As En Sabah Nur emerged from his slumber, he was met with a world vastly different from the one he had left behind. He believed humanity had lost its way without his guidance, and it was his duty to destroy this flawed world and remake it in his image. To achieve this goal, Nur set out to recruit a team of powerful mutants, including Ororo Munroe/Storm (Alexandra Shipp), who possessed the ability to control the weather.

In the midst of this chaos, shape-shifting mutant Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) infiltrated an underground fight club in East Berlin. It was here that she discovered two remarkable mutants: Angel (Ben Hardy), a champion fighter with large, feathered wings sprouting from his back; and Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), a teleporting mutant.

Raven’s chance encounter with these two outcasts led her to rescue Kurt and enlist the services of black marketeer Caliban (Tomas Lemarquis) to transport him to America. Meanwhile, En Sabah Nur was busy recruiting Caliban’s enforcer, Psylocke (Olivia Munn), who wielded the power to project purple psychic energy in the form of an energy blade.

As En Sabah Nur began to enhance the powers of his new recruits – transforming Angel’s wings into metal and amplifying Psylocke’s abilities – he set the stage for a catastrophic reckoning that would shake the very foundations of human civilization.

As Havok (Lucas Till), a mutant with the unsettling ability to absorb energy and unleash it with devastating force from his very being, stumbles upon the nascent manifestation of his younger brother Scott/Cyclops’ (Tye Sheridan) optic beam-firing mutation, he seizes the opportunity to introduce Scott to the esteemed Professor Charles Xavier’s/Professor X (James McAvoy) educational institution in Westchester County, New York. Xavier, a pacifist mutant with unparalleled telepathic abilities, is joined by Hank McCoy/Beast (Nicholas Hoult), a mutant with a remarkable combination of Leonine attributes, prehensile feet, and superhuman physical prowess. Scott’s arrival sparks an undeniable attraction between him and Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), a Telepathic and Telekinetic force to be reckoned with.

Meanwhile, Xavier and Havok begin to sense the ominous disturbances that have begun to plague the world, courtesy of Apocalypse’s otherworldly powers. As they seek guidance from CIA agent Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne), who has been investigating the ancient legend of Nur in Egypt, Xavier shares his level 5 security clearance with her. Unbeknownst to Moira, Xavier had previously purged her memory after their last meeting in X-Men Days of Future Past.

As the world teeters on the brink of destruction, Jean Grey is plagued by vivid nightmares of an impending global catastrophe orchestrated by a dark and malevolent force. Her warnings to Xavier fall on deaf ears as she struggles to harness her powers and find balance. In Poland, Erik Lehnsherr/Magento (Michael Fassbender), a metal-controlling mutant, lives with his wife Magda (Carolina Bartczak) and their young daughter Nina. His utilization of his powers to save a coworker inadvertently attracts the attention of militia, leading to tragedy when they accidentally kill his family. Consumed by grief and anger, Erik retaliates, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.

En Sabah Nur, the ancient and powerful being, hacks into the internet, absorbing humanity’s history since his departure from Earth. He discovers Erik’s public announcement as the first mutant in 1962 and approaches the disheartened mutant. Together, they visit Auschwitz, where Erik’s powers first manifested, leading him to unleash a devastating display of fury that obliterates the camp and surrounding town. As Erik joins forces with Nur, Xavier is alerted by Raven that Erik has resurfaced, prompting him to enter Cerebro in an attempt to locate Raven and potentially quell the growing threat.

As En Sabah Nur invades Charles Xavier’s mind via Cerebro, the telepathic computer, he commandeers Xavier’s powers to orchestrate a catastrophic chain of events. With Xavier’s abilities at his disposal, Nur forces all global superpowers to launch their nuclear arsenals into space, rendering Earth’s defenses impotent. The world’s military might is reduced to self-destructive chaos as submarines, fighter jets, and ground forces simultaneously implode.

Meanwhile, En Sabah Nur and his newfound lieutenants infiltrate the X-Men’s mansion, abducting Xavier in the process. In a desperate attempt to thwart their plans, Alex Summers inadvertently triggers an explosion that razes the mansion to the ground. Miraculously, Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver arrives just in time to evacuate the students using his superhuman speed, but Alex is presumed dead.

As the X-Men’s world crumbles around them, Colonel William Stryker’s forces capture Hank McCoy, Raven Darkholme, Quicksilver, and Moira MacTaggert, whisking them away for interrogation at a military facility. In response, Scott Summers, Jean Grey, and Kurt Wagner covertly infiltrate the facility to liberate their captured comrades with the help of Stryker’s mind-controlled experiment, Wolverine/Logan.

In a stunning turn of events, Xavier secretly sends a mental distress call to Jean, revealing his location and predicament. As En Sabah Nur orchestrates global chaos by manipulating Earth’s magnetic poles, causing widespread destruction and mass casualties, Xavier finds himself at the mercy of his arch-nemesis.

With time running out, Xavier secretly encourages Jean to unleash her full potential, incinerating En Sabah Nur in a climactic showdown. Amidst the chaos, Angel is defeated and left incapacitated, while Ororo and Erik are convinced to turn against their former ally. Scott’s physical presence provides a crucial distraction, allowing Xavier to engage En Sabah Nur telepathically in the astral plane.

As the dust settles, Xavier restores Moira’s memories, rekindling their relationship. Erik and Jean work together to rebuild the X-Men’s school, but Erik declines Xavier’s offer to stay and help teach. Quicksilver decides to keep his true parentage a secret from Erik for the time being. As the new X-Men, Hank and Raven begin training a fresh batch of recruits, including Scott, Jean, Ororo, Kurt, and Peter, forging a brighter future in the aftermath of Apocalypse’s devastating reign.

As the credits roll to a halt, the screen fades into the shadows where a clandestine encounter unfolds. A group of well-dressed operatives, their faces as blank as the suits they wear, descend upon the Weapon X facility with a singular mission: to exhume classified information on the Essex Corporation’s most prized asset - Stryker’s groundbreaking mutant research. Their eyes scan the room with calculated precision, homing in on the coveted data hidden within the sterile confines of a laboratory. Amidst the rows of humming machinery and neatly labeled petri dishes, they pinpoint their quarry: an X-ray and a blood sample emblazoned with the ominous designation “Weapon X”, a chilling reminder of the sinister forces at play.
