War veteran Will Sharp (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) finds himself in a desperate situation when he requires $231,000 for his wife Amy (Moses Ingram)‘s surgery. In his time of need, he turns to his adoptive brother Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal), a seasoned criminal, who persuades him to join in a daring bank heist aimed at stealing $32 million. Though initially reluctant, Will is driven by the desperation to save Amy and thus agrees to be Danny’s getaway driver, leveraging his exceptional driving skills.

As the heist unfolds, what begins as a nearly flawless plan spirals out of control when Officer Zach (Jackson White), who happened to be at the bank to ask out a teller, inadvertently interrupts their operation. Zach becomes a hostage, while the robbers stuff the cash into four bags, each containing a staggering $8 million. A shootout ensues between the heist crew and Zach’s partner Officer Mark (Cedric Sanders), escalating the tension.

The Special Investigation Section (SIS) of the LAPD swiftly arrives, taking aim at the crew, but Danny and Will manage to escape with a bag each. The escape is anything but smooth, as Zach attempts to flee, leading to a tragic incident where he is unintentionally shot by Will during a struggle. In spite of Will’s protests to help Zach, Danny insists they must escape, leaving the injured officer to his fate, although Mark soon finds him and calls for medical assistance.

In a last-ditch effort to flee, the duo hijacks an ambulance with EMT Cam Thompson (Eiza González), who is treating the grievously wounded Zach. Known as the best paramedic in town, Cam finds herself reluctantly held hostage by Danny, who exploits her expertise to manipulate the SIS into allowing them through police barricades by claiming she has a dying officer inside.

As the situation intensifies, the SIS, led by Captain Monroe (Garret Dillahunt), sets helicopters in pursuit of the ambulance. Will’s driving skills are again put to the test while Cam seeks Danny’s aid in saving Zach’s life using a defibrillator, and Will even ends up transferring his blood to stabilize Zach. Tension heightens as it becomes evident that a cop’s death would incur severe repercussions for Danny.

As the chase continues, Cam ingeniously assists in performing emergency surgery on Zach with guidance from medical professionals over the phone. Despite the dire circumstances and a race against time, she manages to save Zach’s life, even as the situation spirals further out of control with Danny threatening her and tensions rising between the brothers.

While hiding under a bridge, Will learns that he cannot abandon Danny, despite Cam’s encouragement to escape. Meanwhile, chaos erupts with criminal reinforcements from Danny’s past. The actions escalate to tragedy when confrontation leads to further casualties, including the shooting of Danny’s accomplice, leaving both brothers trapped in a web of violence and treachery.

Ultimately, during a climactic showdown filled with intense emotion, Will is left with no choice but to shoot Danny, who dies with a heartfelt apology. As the police take Will into custody, Cam, once held hostage, discretely ensures some of the heist money reaches Amy for her life-saving surgery. Facing overwhelming odds, the true heroism emerges as characters grapple with sacrifice, redemption, and the fight for survival.
