Who is the truck driver embarking on a journey to rescue Miao Yin?
Truck driver Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) and his friend Wang Chi are on a mission at the San Francisco International Airport to pick up Wang’s fiancée, Miao Yin. However, their plans take a drastic turn when a notorious Chinese street gang known as the Lords of Death kidnaps Miao Yin, whisking her away into the depths of Chinatown with the nefarious goal of selling her as a sex slave.
Determined to rescue her, Jack and Wang chase down the gang, only to stumble into a chaotic gang fight in the alleyways of Chinatown. During this frenzy, the Wing Kong gang interrupts a funeral procession held by the Chang Sing, leading to an explosive confrontation. Powerful sorcerers, referred to as “The Three Storms”—Thunder, Rain, and Lightning—unleash their dark magic upon the Chang Sing, resulting in a bloody massacre. In an attempt to escape, Jack accidentally runs over their leader, the sinister sorcerer Lo Pan ([James Hong]), but miraculously, Lo Pan emerges unscathed. Soon, Jack finds himself blinded by Lo Pan’s supernatural glowing eyes, leaving Wang to come to his rescue.
The Lords of Death then steal Jack’s truck, forcing Wang to lead him to his family’s restaurant, The Dragon of the Black Pool. Here, they collaborate with lawyer Gracie Law (Kim Cattrall), Wang’s ally Eddie Lee, and Egg Shen, a quirky magician and local expert on Lo Pan. They devise a daring plan to infiltrate the brothel where they believe Miao Yin is imprisoned. After donning disguises and venturing inside, Jack attempts to interrogate one of the girls, but the situation escalates when the Storms burst in and seize Miao Yin.
Back at Gracie’s apartment, the group discovers that Miao Yin is being held at a secretive location known as The Wing Kong Exchange, serving as a front for Lo Pan’s diabolical operations. Jack and Wang bravely venture into this dangerous territory, only to find themselves trapped in a water-filled elevator. After narrowly escaping, they encounter Rain, one of the Storms, who puts them through further harrowing challenges.
Eventually, they are brought before Lo Pan, who has assumed the guise of an old man. He chillingly explains that Miao Yin is “safer with me than any creature on this Earth,” revealing his twisted intentions behind her kidnapping and his 2,000-year-old curse which binds him. As danger mounts, Jack and Wang manage to break free but must remain vigilant as Lo Pan’s minions close in on them.
In a series of intense confrontations, Gracie is seized and taken to Lo Pan, who plans to marry her while sacrificing Miao Yin. Gathering their strength, Jack and Wang seek the aid of Egg Shen and the Chang Sings to storm Lo Pan’s stronghold. Armed with a potion from Egg that emboldens them, they engage in fierce battles against the Storms. Jiang skillfully duels Rain, while Jack finds himself unwittingly knocked out before making a critical move against Lo Pan.
In a dramatic climax, Jack manages to drive a knife into Lo Pan’s head, leading to a catastrophic reaction from Thunder, who inflates and explodes in a burst of fury. As they navigate the wreckage, the group faces off against Lightning, ultimately escaping due to Egg Shen’s quick thinking.
In the aftermath, they reclaim Jack’s truck and flee back to The Dragon of the Black Pearl. With Lo Pan finally defeated, Egg decides to take a vacation, voicing that “China is in the heart,” as Jack drives off into the sunset, unaware of the lingering threat of a hidden stowaway among them—one of the remaining monsters still lurking in the shadows.
