Who is the primary antagonist in Saban's Power Rangers?
In a thrilling tale set during the Cenozoic era, six intergalactic defenders known as the Power Rangers are charged with the crucial mission of safeguarding life on Earth and the Zeo Crystal. However, their nemesis, the once-heroic Green Ranger, Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks), who has turned to darkness after betraying her own team, threatens their very existence. Millions of years ago, she was defeated by Zordon (Bryan Cranston), the original Red Ranger and now their mentor, who must confront this formidable foe again as she seeks to dominate the universe.
After surviving Rita’s vicious assault, Zordon instructs his assistant Alpha 5 (Bill Hader) to execute a drastic meteor strike intended to annihilate Rita and secure their power source, the Power Coins. This cataclysmic event not only leads to Rita being submerged in the depths of the ocean but also causes the cataclysmic extinction of dinosaurs.
Fast forward to present-day Angel Grove, California, where high school football star Jason Scott (Dacre Montgomery) faces repercussions after a prank lands him under house arrest. During his detention, he crosses paths with Billy Cranston (RJ Cyler), an intelligent but socially ostracized boy, and Kimberly Hart (Naomi Scott), a former cheerleader grappling with the consequences of her actions. When Billy manages to deactivate Jason’s ankle monitor, the two friends embark on an adventure to an abandoned gold mine, soon joined by Trini (Becky G.) and Zack (Ludi Lin), who each find their own Power Coins. Their escape from the mine is harrowing, culminating in a crash with a train.
The next day, they wake up to newfound superhuman abilities, but unknown to them, Rita has returned, determined to resurrect her minion Goldar to seize the Zeo Crystal and unleash havoc upon Earth. Upon discovering an ancient spaceship, the teenagers meet Zordon’s consciousness and learn of the urgency: they have eleven days to thwart Rita’s plans. Initially hesitant, they begin their training under intense pressure.
Despite their struggles to morph into their Ranger forms, they face additional challenges, including interpersonal conflicts and the looming threat of Rita’s power. As Alpha encourages them to embrace their roles, tensions flare, leading to an explosion of frustration and misunderstandings. However, when one of their own, Billy, is brutally killed by Rita, their camaraderie is tested, igniting a fierce determination to combat her evil.
In a heartfelt moment, the Rangers show their loyalty and willingness to sacrifice for each other, successfully unlocking the Morphing Grid and bringing Billy back to life at a significant cost to Zordon. Now a united front, the Power Rangers confront Rita’s forces in an epic showdown where they must harness their Zords to save the day.
With the battle escalating, Rita creates new threats, but the Rangers, now stronger and more unified than ever, summon the Megazord and engage in an electrifying fight that ends with them overcoming Rita and Goldar. The townspeople recognize them as heroes, but a shadow of danger looms as they hear Rita’s parting words that more challenges await them.
As the world begins to heal, a teaser reveals a new character, Tommy Oliver, ready to make his entrance in the mid-credits scene, setting the stage for future adventures in the Power Rangers saga.
