What event are the four friends celebrating in Miami?
In 2006, four friends—Jess, Alice, Frankie, and Blair—forge a strong bond during their first year of college. Fast forward a decade, and the group reunites just as Jess prepares to marry her fiancé, Peter. Inspired by nostalgia, Alice proposes a weekend getaway in sunny Miami. At this juncture, Alice has taken up a teaching job, Frankie is an aspiring activist grappling with past mistakes, Blair, now a real estate agent, finds herself amidst a bitter divorce while still battling feelings for Frankie, and Jess is ambitiously eyeing a senatorial run, despite facing skepticism from the electorate regarding her credibility.
Upon their arrival in Miami, they are joined by Pippa, Jess’s friend from her Australian study abroad. The festivities begin as they indulge in a night of partying, which includes getting high at a club. In a bold move, Frankie decides to hire a male stripper, Jay. However, when Jay appears at their door, his rough demeanor makes Jess uneasy. In a moment of impulsive fun, Alice leaps onto Jay, leading to a disastrous turn of events that ends with him accidentally hitting his head on the fireplace, resulting in his untimely death.
Panic ensues when Jess receives a call from Peter, leading her to mention the stripper in her state of confusion. In a frenzy to keep their mishap under wraps, Alice destroys Jess’s phone, and Blair seizes the remaining phones, preventing any calls until they can devise a solid plan. Misunderstanding Jess’s predicament, Peter believes she’s planning to leave him and hastily makes his way to Miami to win her back.
Seeking counsel, the friends obtain a burner phone and reach out to Blair’s uncle, a lawyer, who warns them about the legal repercussions of their actions. Upon realizing the gravity of their situation, they decide to dispose of Jay’s body in the ocean. Their troubles escalate when they discover their neighbor, Lea, and Pietro possess a security camera that might have captured their crime, leading Blair to confront an unexpected twist following a rendezvous with them.
Soon, a police officer named Scotty arrives, only for the girls to mistakenly knock him out, thinking he is a threat, but they soon discover he is the very stripper they had ordered. Their attempts to get rid of the body continue to thwart them; a comical car accident further complicates their situation after they try using Scotty’s car.
Amid rising tensions, an argument erupts as Alice feels sidelined by Jess inviting Frankie and Blair to a bridal shower, resulting in a confrontation that ends with Jess storming off. Just when things couldn’t get worse, Detectives Frazier and Ruiz arrive, clarifying that their “victim” was, in fact, a criminal. However, Pippa soon realizes that the detectives are connected to a jewelry heist associated with the man they thought they killed, leading to a terrifying confrontation where the women find themselves tied up and threatened.
With chaos escalating, Jess, who has been upstairs, returns to find her friends in a perilous situation. Using her resourcefulness, she tackles Frazier, even as her fiancé Peter inadvertently crashes and resolves their problems in a rather explosive fashion. Ultimately, Jess reaffirms her commitment to Peter, leading to an impromptu wedding that same weekend. Meanwhile, Frankie and Blair rekindle their romance, and Alice finds a spark with Scotty. The girls breathe a sigh of relief as they’ve been cleared of any wrongdoing; their ordeal with dangerous criminals turns into a surprising boost for Jess’s political career.
In a humorous post-credits scene, Jess and Peter drop Alice off at home after a night of celebration. While rummaging through her kitchen, Alice discovers a surprising treasure—diamonds stashed within her pasta, leftover from their wild escapades, bringing their adventure full circle with a twist of fate.
