In a world where ancient titans have long been a staple of human entertainment, the quaint town of Stoker-Upon-Avon has made a name for itself as the epicenter of Monster Wrestling. For generations, locals had flocked to cheer on hometown heroes Rayburn and Jimbo Coyle, but their untimely demise at sea sent shockwaves through the community. The void left by these legendary champions was eventually filled by Tentacular, a formidable shark monster coached by Siggy Martin, Jimbo's protégé. As Tentacular dominated the ring, the entire town gathered to witness his matches against formidable foes like King Gorge, a gargantuan bulldog.

Jimbo's spirited daughter Winnie had grown up on the thrill of Monster Wrestling and inherited her father's unwavering passion for the sport. During one particularly intense bout, Winnie noticed that Tentacular was struggling against King Gorge until she discovered the latter's tell – a subtle lip lick preceding each attack. This crucial insight allowed Tentacular to turn the tables and emerge victorious, but just as the crowd was celebrating their champion's triumph, he announced his departure for greener pastures, leaving Stoker-Upon-Avon without its beloved hometown hero.

The town's Mayor, Fred Melamed, convened an emergency meeting with Councilwoman Greta Lee to break the news: without a reigning champion monster, Monster Wrestling as they knew it would cease to exist. The stadium would be forced to close, and the community would suffer financially. Amidst this chaos, Jimothy Brett-Chadley III, a wealthy blowhard, saw an opportunity to capitalize on the town's misfortune by proposing the demolition of the stadium and its replacement with a parking lot.

As her own mother Maggie urged Winnie to abandon her quest, she refused to give up, instead setting her sights on Pittsmore, a neighboring town that had also lost its monster champion. Undeterred, Winnie traveled to this seedy locale, where illicit Monster Wrestling bouts took place in an abandoned warehouse. Despite approaching several skilled wrestlers, they dismissed her attempts to recruit them with derisive laughter.

As Winnie's relentless pursuit of attention finally yields a connection with Steve (Will Arnett), she unwittingly disrupts the carefully crafted dynamics of the underground wrestling scene. A chance encounter reveals that Steve, the son of the enigmatic Rayburn, has been forced to succumb to defeat every night as part of his arranged struggles. Unbeknownst to Winnie, her enthusiastic overtures have inadvertently foiled Klonk's (Brian Baumgartner) carefully scripted loss, infuriating their ruthless boss, Lady Mayhem (Bridget Everett). The consequences are dire: Steve must scramble to make up for the financial losses or face a series of unpleasant repercussions. With no other options, Steve begrudgingly joins forces with Winnie, reluctantly returning to Stoker.

As the unlikely duo begins their training regimen, Steve's memories of his father dismissing his passion for dance in favor of wrestling resurface, fueling his hesitation to fully commit to physical conditioning. It isn't until Winnie takes him to a cargo ship, where monster battles rage on, that Steve faces off against Ramarilla (Roman Reigns) in a winner-takes-all showdown. With Winnie's guidance, Steve manages to eke out a victory, but his unorthodox methods earn the scorn of sports commentators Marc Remy (Stephen A Smith) and Lights Out McNulty (Jimmy Tatro), who deem the match one of the most uninspiring in history.

As Winnie continues to push Steve through grueling training sessions, he struggles to reconcile his desire for independence with his newfound passion for dancing. It isn't until she discovers his hidden talent that Winnie begins incorporating dance moves into their fighting style. The results are mixed, with some fans hailing the novel approach as innovative and others dismissing it as showy posturing. As Steve navigates this uncharted territory, he must confront the blurred lines between his love for dancing and the harsh realities of the fight game.

As Winnie's persistence ultimately proves futile in convincing Steve to confront King Gorge, a stunning revelation unfolds: the Mayor and Councilwoman are poised to seal the stadium's fate by signing it over to Jimothy, leaving its very existence hanging precariously in the balance. It is at this juncture that the true extent of Tentacular's Machiavellian machinations comes to light - his desperation to erase his own perceived inferiority to Rayburn drives him to sacrifice his legacy and willfully destroy the stadium, a move that crushes Winnie and Steve's spirits.

Meanwhile, Steve returns to Pittsmore, his pockets filled with Lady Mayhem's bounty, preparing to surrender to the monotony of his mundane job. However, a serendipitous discovery in his locker - a collection of cherished memories featuring himself and his father enjoying each other's company - serves as a poignant reminder of their bond.

As fate would have it, Steve finds Winnie back in Stoker, where they're met by an enthralled crowd gathered to bear witness to Tentacular's impending demolition of the stadium. With mere moments to spare before the structure meets its demise, Steve seizes the opportunity to rip out the explosive cables and confront the crowd as he reveals his astonishing truth: he is none other than Rayburn Jr.

As stunned onlookers - including Lady Mayhem - struggle to comprehend this revelation, Tentacular agrees to a fisticuffs showdown with Steve, leaving Winnie to reinvigorate their training regimen. With an influx of support and encouragement from all corners, Steve's determination to protect the stadium and prove his mettle ignites a fire that will drive him forward in the face of adversity.

As the moment of truth arrives, Steve's anxieties about living up to his father's legendary status begin to overwhelm him. But Winnie steps in, delivering a rousing pep talk that sends Steve's spirits soaring. The first round of the big match unfolds with an unorthodox dance-filled battle against Tentacular, resulting in a less-than-thrilling spectacle for the audience. However, as the fight wears on and Tentacular starts to counter Steve's moves, the tone shifts dramatically. Siggy's concerns about Steve's safety reach a boiling point, prompting her to urge Winnie to throw in the towel, fearing Tentacular's crushing blow could leave Steve seriously injured. Just as it seems like all hope is lost, Steve rallies his determination and conjures up a new battle plan.

In the final round, Steve unleashes his full fury, executing a daring jump that allows him to land on Tentacular and send both fighters crashing to the mat (not before a wayward chair sends Jimothy flying). As the dust settles, it becomes clear that both champions are down for the count. Yet, in a stunning display of resilience, Steve rises to his feet, his eyes fixed on the prize as he claims the title of new champion. Tentacular is carted away in humiliation, while Siggy finds solace in Winnie's coaching prowess, likening her mentorship to that of her own legendary father.

The crowd erupts into a frenzy of cheers and applause as Steve celebrates his hard-won victory. Lady Mayhem (watching from the shadows), takes pride in Steve's achievement, acknowledging him as a worthy champion. The stadium is bathed in joy and music, giving way to an impromptu dance party that continues long into the night. Later, Steve and Winnie cap off their triumph with a sweet treat - frozen yogurt - but overindulge, leaving them regretting their sugary splurge.
