What catastrophic event triggers the chaos in central London?
As mayhem unfolds in central London due to a military aircraft’s catastrophic crash, its classified cargo disperses throughout the city, plunging the area into chaos. Within this turmoil, a Storage 24 facility faces a critical failure, trapping seven people inside: Charlie with his friend Mark, his former partner Shelley, her friend Nikki, Nikki’s boyfriend Chris, the unflappable receptionist Jake, and Bob, the maintenance engineer. With power outages compounding their difficulties, the group must unite in a desperate struggle for survival.
During their time in the facility, Bob and Jake embark on a perilous quest through the maze-like basement, aiming to unlock the security shutters. Tragedy strikes when Bob is brutally murdered by a mysterious entity. A terrified Jake seeks refuge in an open storage unit, where he’s soon discovered by Chris. As Charlie, Mark, Shelley, and Nikki gather near the scene, they are met with a horrifying sight: Chris, paralyzed with shock and covered in blood, has stumbled upon Jake’s mangled body suspended ominously above them.
Panic erupts as awareness dawns upon them that they are not alone. A threatening figure appears from the shadows, brandishing an electric toothbrush and demanding that Nikki submit to him. After restraining this individual, they soon discover he is merely a distressed resident of a nearby storage unit, trying to escape from his spouse.
As they reassess the dire situation, the group faces a chilling revelation: a malevolent force has infiltrated their sanctuary. Chris’s subsequent disappearance and grisly death serve as stark reminders of their perilous condition, driving them to seek refuge in one of David’s storage units, which momentarily provides safety.
David, a quiet yet resourceful character, aids the group in navigating the surrounding chaos by flicking through a collection of acquired televisions. Realizing that their only chance for survival is to escape, they undertake a mission to gather crucial equipment from the basement. Before braving the unknown, they venture into the ventilation ducts hoping to discover weapons and resources that might bolster their odds of survival.
Mark and Charlie’s search yields a meager assortment: a knife, a crowbar, and some fireworks. However, their return journey turns into a terrifying ordeal when the creature breaches the duct just inches from Charlie. Left to face the terror without his companion, Charlie must rely on his own wits. The group later reunites, only to confront their monstrous foe once more. In a heroic instance of sacrifice, David gives his life to grant the others a chance to evade the entity.
As they gather their thoughts and reassess their escape plan, the group separates into pairs to search the basement. When Charlie and Nikki discover the electronic keypad near Bob’s gruesome remains, they rush back, only to find Mark standing in shock as he reveals that Shelley has been captured by the creature. With urgency fueling their movements, Charlie is unwilling to abandon Shelley and, alongside Nikki, embarks on a brave rescue mission.
Meanwhile, in a nearby corridor, Shelley finds herself ensnared and in desperate straits with the creature. Just when it appears there’s no more hope, she manages to break free using the knife and makes a desperate sprint for survival. Cornered in a lift, she’s forced to think quickly when Charlie and Nikki unleash a toy dog rigged with lit fireworks down the hall. The resulting explosion clears a path for her to escape.
Convinced that they’ve vanquished their fearsome opponent, the trio makes a dash for the reception area only to discover Mark has taken it upon himself to barricade the entrance with a crowbar. As his frantic teammates plead with him to reconsider, his distracted gaze leaves them feeling more cornered than ever. Charlie gathers his courage, kicks open the door, and desperately attempts to operate the keypad to free the security shutters.
Just as things seem utterly hopeless, the creature bursts through the wall behind the unassuming Mark, extinguishing their final chance at escape. With Nikki’s support, Charlie taps into his strength to deliver a crushing blow to the creature’s abdomen, culminating in the poignant declaration: > “I just want to go home.”
In the aftermath, Shelley expresses remorse for her role in the events that transpired, but Charlie grapples with the breakup, feeling the weight of loss. As they part ways, the city of London burns under the relentless attack of alien ships, leaving the film’s conclusion open-ended, prompting the audience to reflect on the grave repercussions of the characters’ desperate fight for survival.
