As Jerry Bolanti (Scott Adkins) emerges from behind bars, he is met with a world filled with uncertainty and overwhelming stress. In search of distraction, he finds an unexpected knack for debt collection and intimidation, leading him to reach out to a mid-level wiseguy acquaintance. Eager to prove himself, he offers his services as a collector and enforcer. His inaugural task involves collecting debts from Bernie Feldshuh, but things take a sour turn when he is ambushed by Bernie’s henchmen, left for dead under a hail of gunfire.
Against all odds, Jerry survives the harrowing gunshot wounds and seeks vengeance on Bernie’s doorstep. Yet, this act of retribution ignites a violent chain reaction. Bernie retaliates by hiring the heartless assassin Marley (Tony Todd) to hunt down both Jerry and the lawyer Herb Greene. In the wake of Marley’s ruthless rampage, an innocent secretary tragically becomes a collateral victim, leaving Jerry with the gnawing weight of loss.
News of the turmoil reaches his boss, Anthony, who dispatches a hitman of his own to rectify the situation, resulting in yet another senseless death. Now grappling with not just his reputation but also a staggering loss of $28,000, Jerry remains undeterred. His next task pushes him to team up with enforcers Joe and Serge, aiming to raid a shop manager for a hefty sum of $40,000. Nevertheless, Marley lurks in the shadows, ready to exploit any weakness, leading to disastrous results when Joe and Serge unwittingly meet their ends during the operation.
Retreating to a hotel room to tally their losses, Jerry pauses at the restaurant downstairs, blissfully unaware that Marley is stalking his every move. In an unexpected twist, Marley eliminates Joe and Serge, absconding with the loot. When Tony (Jerry’s handler) discovers the mess, he lashes out at Jerry, accusing him of stealing the cash. Despite Jerry’s vehement denials, Tony remains unimpressed, unable to fathom such incompetence.
Desperate to clear his name, Jerry learns Marley’s identity from a restaurateur named Spinoza. Rallying his courage, Jerry tracks Marley down and confronts him in a lonely field of tall grass, determining to put an end to his reign of terror. Just when it seems fortune might finally be smiling upon him, Jerry receives a surprising call from Gus at the local junkyard, offering him and his long-time partner Paula an opportunity to recover some value from a wayward camper.
However, the situation turns grim as Jerry is ambushed by three armed thugs, who ruthlessly gun him down right in front of the battered red camper. Life snuffed out, Jerry’s body is carelessly discarded in a manner reminiscent of so many predecessors. The film’s conclusion draws into a haunting full circle, where the narrative returns to the same nefarious figures, now disposing of another lifeless body in the very ravine where our journey originated. Tragically, this time, the victim is none other than Jerry Bolanti, meeting his fate at the hands of his former superior, Tony, whose true motives and intentions unravel throughout the story.
