Plot Summary

The Turkish Railway stretches across the vast expanse of Turkey, a seemingly endless path punctuated only by the arrival of Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), a man with a mission. He steps into the dimly lit bar cart, where his target, a ruthless Turkish man (Adam Karst), awaits. The air is thick with tension as they engage in a tense conversation, each trying to outmaneuver the other. But when the man discovers McCall’s true intentions, he sets his henchmen on him, and the scene erupts into a brutal display of violence. Undeterred, McCall methodically dispatches the thugs, finally confronting the father with an ultimatum.

Meanwhile, in Boston, a very different kind of drama unfolds. Grace (Tamara Hickey), an American mother, is reunited with her long-lost daughter (Rhys Olivia Cote) at a lawyer’s office, the reunion a poignant reminder of the power of love to heal even the deepest wounds.

As McCall navigates his new life as a Lyft driver, he forms unlikely bonds with his passengers. There’s Sam Rubenstein (Orson Bean), an elderly man consumed by a quest to find his long-lost sister; and Amy (Caroline Day), a young woman whose innocence has been brutally taken from her. When McCall learns of her fate, he springs into action, using his unique set of skills to exact justice.

In a far-flung corner of the world, Belgium, a man named Mr. Calbert (Antoine de Lartigue) returns home to find his wife (Abigail Marlowe) brutally beaten and crying. The scene is one of unadulterated horror as three men - Resnik (Jonathan Scarfe), Ari (Kazy Tauginas), and Kovac (Garrett Golden) - emerge, their faces twisted with malice. They leave the woman for dead before turning their attention to Mr. Calbert, forcing him to witness his wife’s murder.

As McCall goes about his daily routine, he finds himself drawn into a world of intrigue and deception. A chance encounter at a bookstore reunites him with Grace (Tamara Hickey), but neither is aware of the other’s true identity or the role they have played in each other’s lives. The evening takes on a sense of normalcy as McCall shares a warm dinner with Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo), his eyes never straying from the past, where memories of his late wife Vivian linger, a poignant reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope.

As McCall tends to the desecration of Fatima’s garden, a symbol of community and tranquility, he is confronted by Miles Whittaker, an ambitious young artist, who offers his assistance in erasing the vandalism. This marks the beginning of an uneasy alliance between the two men, with Miles seeking compensation for his services.

Meanwhile, Susan’s investigation into the Calbert murders takes her to Belgium, where she and Dave York scrutinize the crime scene. However, their trip is marred by a violent encounter when Susan’s hotel room is breached by two thugs who demand payment. Despite being outmatched, Susan valiantly defends herself, temporarily repelling her attackers before they corner her in her bedroom.

The news of Susan’s untimely demise sends McCall reeling as he receives the devastating call from Brian (her husband). He hastens to Washington, D.C. for the funeral and subsequently delves into the circumstances surrounding her death by reviewing hotel security footage and crime scene photos.

As McCall navigates the tangled web of events, he discovers that the thugs who attacked Susan were merely pawns in a larger game. Their gruesome demise at the hands of Resnik and his cohorts serves as a grim reminder of the ruthless tactics employed to eliminate loose ends.

McCall’s investigation leads him to observe Miles socializing with neighborhood gangsters, a development that prompts McCall to take action. He infiltrates their apartment, disarms their guards, and confiscates their weapons in an effort to bring Miles back under his wing. The young artist had been seeking revenge against the thugs responsible for his brother’s murder, but McCall makes it clear that he is not equipped to deal with these individuals.

Through this complex dance of alliances and counter-alliances, McCall must navigate a treacherous landscape of violence, deception, and retribution, all while grappling with the dark forces that have claimed Susan’s life.

As the unsuspecting passenger (actor unknown?) in McCall’s car, Logan International Airport was merely a cover for their true destination - a journey into treachery. When McCall’s instincts screamed red alert, he deliberately veered off course, only to be met with a shocking attempt on his life. The would-be assassin’s futile attempts at stabbing and shooting were quickly neutralized by McCall’s lightning-quick reflexes, as he expertly elbowed the assailant in the face multiple times before seizing control of the situation. As the dust settled, McCall found himself holding the assassin’s phone, which revealed a cryptic message that would forever alter his trajectory.

Seeking guidance from Dave (actor unknown?), McCall arrived at his friend’s home, where he was met with an eerie familiarity in the guise of Dave’s wife and two daughters. As they departed, McCall discreetly revealed to Dave the decoded information on the phone, tracing it back to another phone - one that shockingly belonged to his old friend himself. The truth slowly seeped in: after being pronounced dead, Dave and their fellow CIA-trained operatives had become embroiled in a dark underworld of deceit, with Susan’s untimely demise serving as the catalyst for Dave’s descent into madness.

Dave led McCall outside, where they reunited with Resnik, Ari, and Kovac, four operatives who had once been taught under McCall’s watchful eye. With an air of sinister intent, Dave vowed to eliminate each of them in retribution for their role in Susan’s tragic demise. As if taunting him further, Dave’s wife offered McCall a ride, leaving him to ponder the gravity of his situation.

With Brian (actor unknown?) safely ensconced in a secure location, McCall set out to untangle the web of deceit surrounding him, fearing that his protégé might be targeted as a loose end. Meanwhile, Miles (actor unknown?), McCall’s trusted ally, found himself painting the walls of their apartment, oblivious to the danger lurking outside.

As Dave and Kovac attempted to breach the apartment, Miles’ phone conversation with McCall served as the catalyst for chaos. With seconds to spare, McCall instructed Miles to flee to a hidden sanctuary behind his bookshelf, but as the claustrophobic tension mounted, Miles began to feel trapped. McCall’s quick thinking allowed him to anticipate their move, and he issued a warning call to Dave just as Miles thought he had escaped.

As the stakes reached a boiling point, McCall retreated to his hometown on the eve of a hurricane evacuation, drawing the attention of his four nemesis. Kovac mistakenly spotted McCall in a shop, only for McCall to deliver a devastating harpoon blow to his head. Ari’s pursuit was short-lived, as McCall outmaneuvered him, slicing him from head to toe. Resnik, ever the relentless pursuer, found himself on the receiving end of a well-placed grenade, which shredded his stomach and sent his lifeless body crashing to the ground.

As Dave’s taunting sniper fire rains down on him from atop the tower, he attempts to psychologically gain the upper hand against McCall. With a calculated precision, he contacts McCall and issues an ultimatum: surrender or face the consequences - namely, the murder of Miles, who is unwittingly trapped in a trunk below. Dave’s relentless barrage of shots serves as a reminder of his unwavering determination to claim victory. However, McCall proves himself to be a cunning foe, anticipating Dave’s final shot and intentionally puncturing the tire of the car containing Miles. This clever maneuver forces Dave to miss his mark, leaving him momentarily stunned.

Seizing the initiative, McCall climbs to the top of the tower, where he engages Dave in a brutal hand-to-hand combat. As their struggle reaches its climax, McCall gains the upper hand, inflicting a series of gruesome wounds on Dave, including a gouged eye and a stabbed abdomen. With Dave’s strength waning, McCall seizes the opportunity to deliver a fatal blow, plunging his knife into Dave’s neck before sending his lifeless body tumbling off the tower, where it crashes against the rocks before being swept away by the ocean’s waves.

As McCall tends to Miles’ injured leg and treats his wound at his old home, he is reminded of his troubled past through a series of poignant photographs. The images depict his days as a soldier and happier times with Vivian, serving as a painful reminder of all that has transpired.

Meanwhile, back in the community, Fatima discovers that her once-barren garden has been revitalized, adorned with vibrant murals depicting scenes from her homeland. A message scrawled on the adjacent wall serves as a poignant testament to Miles’ artistic talents and McCall’s unwavering dedication: “I leave you with the best of myself.”

As the story concludes, we find Sam reunited with his sister Magda, thanks to McCall’s efforts to bring them back together. The film culminates with McCall standing alone outside his old home, gazing out at the ocean as the sun dips below the horizon, a symbol of his introspective contemplation and the weight of his past decisions.
