What is John Bridger's profession?

Plot Summary

In the sun-kissed city of Venice, John Bridger (Sutherland), a veteran safecracker, makes contact with his daughter Stella Bridger (Theron) to set in motion his swan song heist. He then reunites with Charlie Croker (Wahlberg), and together they assemble a team of experts: Steve (Norton), the mastermind; Handsome Rob (Statham), a skilled getaway driver; Left Ear (Def), an explosives expert; and Lyle (Green), a technical wizard. The operation unfolds with precision, but just as they’re celebrating their success, Steve betrays them all by snatching the gold for himself, taking John’s life in the process and leaving the rest of the team to suffer.

The passage of time brings Stella to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she uses her safecracking expertise to aid law enforcement. Meanwhile, Charlie’s team has been tracking down Steve, driven by a burning desire for retribution. They recruit Stella to join their quest for justice, recognizing that her skills and motivation make her an invaluable asset. As they converge on Los Angeles, California, the team begins to surveil Steve’s residence, plotting their revenge. Unbeknownst to them, however, Steve is trying to sell his ill-gotten gains through a money launderer (Krutonog), but when the latter starts asking too many questions, Steve takes drastic measures.

However, this newfound wealth attracts unwanted attention from a local Ukrainian Mafia boss (Krupa) seeking vengeance for the murder of his cousin. The team’s initial plan involves Stella posing as a cable repair woman to gain entry into Steve’s house and locate the safe, while Charlie’s crew breaks in and loads the gold into three specially modified Mini Coopers courtesy of Rob’s mechanical friend Wrench (Franky G). They also plan to use hacked traffic lights to make their getaway. However, a surprise party forces Charlie to call off the operation. To maintain her cover, Stella agrees to a date with Steve, but he eventually figures out her true identity. The situation escalates as Charlie confronts Steve, vowing to recover the stolen gold and bring justice to John’s memory.

As Steve becomes cognizant that Charlie and his cohorts are indeed alive, he sets into motion an intricate plan to transport the coveted gold. With calculated precision, he acquires three heavily armored trucks and a hovering helicopter, permitting him to maintain a hawk-like vigilance over the convoy’s journey. In a bid to outmaneuver Charlie’s cunning shell game, Steve’s team leader employs Lyle’s extraordinary control over the Los Angeles traffic grid to isolate one of the trucks, cleverly pinpointing its contents. With masterful ease, Lyle locates the truck bearing the gold and orchestrates a city-wide gridlock, effectively trapping the treasure within. The resourceful team then proceeds to pilfer the gold from the stranded vehicle and makes their escape in a trio of Mini Coopers, leaving a trail of confusion in their wake.

Meanwhile, Steve and his hired security entourage are hot on their heels, doggedly pursuing Charlie’s team through the city streets. However, the pursuers soon find themselves outsmarted by the cunning fugitives, who manage to shake off their trackers with ease – except for Steve himself, whose tenacity proves a double-edged sword. As he closes in on Charlie, he unwittingly walks into a carefully laid trap: Charlie has already discreetly apprised the Ukrainian mafia of Steve’s true identity, and as a token of goodwill, offers them a portion of the pilfered gold. Steve is then taken into custody by the gangsters, marking the beginning of his own perilous odyssey.

With Steve temporarily out of commission, Charlie’s team regroups to divide the remaining spoils of war. In a toast to the late Stella’s father, they raise their glasses in a triumphant celebration as they board the Coast Starlight train, bidding farewell to Los Angeles and its memories. As the credits roll, a series of vignettes unfold, showcasing each member of the team indulging in their own unique indulgences with their newfound wealth.
