In the vibrant city of New Orleans during the 1920s, a young woman named Tiana (played by) lived and breathed the culinary world, with a passion for opening her own restaurant, a dream shared with her late father. Her days were filled with the hustle and bustle of working two waitress jobs, leaving little time for socializing or pursuing her aspirations. Meanwhile, in the midst of this jazz-filled metropolis, Naveen (played by), an arrogant prince from Maldonia, arrived on the scene. Having fallen out with his parents, he aimed to win the heart and fortune of Charlotte La Bouff, Tiana's best friend. The occasion for their meeting was a lavish masquerade ball hosted by Eli "Big Daddy" La Bouff, Charlotte's father, in honor of Naveen. As fate would have it, Charlotte hired Tiana to create delectable beignets for the event, which earned her enough to purchase a dilapidated mill that she intended to transform into her dream restaurant.

As the night unfolded, Naveen and his valet, Lawrence, crossed paths with Dr. Facilier, an evil voodoo witch doctor who sought to dominate New Orleans. Seizing the opportunity, Facilier employed a powerful talisman containing Naveen's blood to transform both Naveen and Lawrence into frog-like creatures, with the former unwittingly becoming a literal amphibian. The doppelganger of Naveen, created through dark magic, was dispatched to marry Charlotte, ultimately leading to the demise of Big Daddy La Bouff.

The evening took a dramatic turn when Tiana learned she had been outbid for her desired restaurant property and accidentally besmirched her outfit with beignets and sauce. As a result, Charlotte generously lent her a stunning princess costume to wear. Feeling dejected, Tiana began yearning for the stars above, only to have Naveen's frog-like form materialize before her. Misconstruing Tiana as a princess, he requested that she bestow a kiss upon him to break the spell, prompting her to reluctantly comply. However, this act of kindness had an unintended consequence, transforming Tiana into a frog herself.

With their predicament explained to Louis, a wise and jazzy alligator who resided in the bayou, they sought his counsel. Louis guided them towards Mama Odie, a benevolent voodoo practitioner living in the bayou, who possessed the power to restore their human forms. Convinced that only Mama Odie could help him achieve his ambition of becoming a professional jazz musician, Naveen convinced Louis to transport both Tiana and himself to her mystical abode.

As Louis's uncertain path unwinds, a fleeting Cajun firefly named Ray intervenes, offering his luminescent guidance to the trio seeking Mama Odie's wisdom. Meanwhile, an unspoken allure blossoms between Tiana and Naveen, particularly as Naveen learns to harness his responsibilities. However, their nascent connection is momentarily disrupted when Naveen's talisman, imbued with the essence of his blood, depletes its magical energy.

In a desperate attempt to reclaim his pawn, Facilier implores the voodoo spirits to grant him an army of shadowy minions. These dark entities soon discover Tiana and her companions in the mystical bayou, prompting Mama Odie's timely intervention to rescue them from certain doom.

As Naveen's predicament becomes increasingly dire, Mama Odie reveals that the only means to break his curse lies in a princess's kiss. Tiana, now aware of Big Daddy's coronation as Mardi Gras king, realizes that Charlotte will momentarily assume the role of royalty until midnight. The group embarks on a perilous journey back to New Orleans aboard a creaky steamboat, during which Naveen confides in Ray about his ardent love for Tiana and plans to propose marriage.

However, after a poignant conversation with Tiana, Naveen selflessly decides against proposing, cognizant that transforming him and Tiana into humans, as well as financing her restaurant, hinges on his marrying Charlotte. The shadow demons capture Naveen, delivering him to Facilier's waiting grasp to replenish the talisman with his lifeblood.

As Ray whispers the truth about Naveen's affections to Tiana, she sets out to find Naveen at the Mardi Gras celebration, only to behold the illusory union between Charlotte and Lawrence. A desperate Ray rescues the genuine Naveen, pilfers the talisman, and bestows it upon Tiana just as Facilier exacts a mortal wound on the firefly.

With the voodoo spirits closing in, Facilier offers Tiana a Faustian bargain: her dream of a restaurant in exchange for the talisman. Realizing that she would be dishonoring her father's legacy by accepting, Tiana destroys the talisman, foiling Facilier's scheme and condemning him to eternal servitude among the voodoo spirits.

With Lawrence apprehended, Tiana finally confesses her love to Naveen. Charlotte, moved by their devotion, agrees to grant Naveen the kiss that would restore them to human form. However, as the clock strikes midnight, Charlotte's royal status expires, leaving Tiana and Naveen forever bound as amphibians.

As Ray prepares for his celestial rebirth as a star, Louis accompanies him on one final, poignant visit with Tiana and Naveen before he passes into the afterlife. Subsequently, Tiana and Naveen exchange vows in an intimate ceremony presided over by Mama Odie, restoring their humanity and paving the way for their eventual legal union and the opening of Tiana's beloved restaurant in New Orleans.
