Sixty-five million years ago, during the Cretaceous period, a powerful group known as the Creators unleashed devastating Seeds, resulting in the extinction of most life on Earth. Fast forward to today, where Darcy Tyril (played by Sophia Myles), a geologist, stumbles upon a mysterious dinosaur skeleton covered in an unusual metal.
In the aftermath of the Battle of Chicago, a period of five years has lapsed, and the sentiment toward the Autobots has shifted to one of fear and suspicion. While they are officially granted a form of sanctuary, an elite CIA unit named Cemetery Wind, led by the paranoid agent Harold Attinger (Kelsey Grammer) and team leader James Savoy, secretly operates to eliminate not only the remaining Decepticons but also the Autobots, whom they view as a menace. The team, under the guidance of the Transformer bounty hunter Lockdown, ambushes and murders Ratchet (Optimus’s medical officer), while their main objective is to capture Optimus Prime alive.
Meanwhile, we meet the struggling inventor Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and his friend Lucas, who purchase an old truck to salvage parts for Cade’s daughter Tessa (Nicola Peltz)‘s college tuition. To their shock, they find that the truck is none other than an injured Optimus Prime. After repairing him, fear and danger soon collide when Cemetery Wind tracks them down in Texas, leading to a tense confrontation that reveals the true threat they face.
In their escape, they are rescued by Shane Dyson (Jack Reynor), Tessa’s secret boyfriend, but not without tragedy, as Lucas is killed by a grenade. With barely a moment to regroup, the trio along with Optimus Prime go into hiding, where relations grow tense due to the secret relationship between Cade’s daughter and Shane. In the meantime, Optimus rallies the remaining Autobots: Bumblebee, Hound, Drift, and Crosshairs.
Through exploration and tension, Cade hacks into a drone from the earlier attack and reveals Cemetery Wind’s collusion with the corporation KSI. This corporation has gained control over the hunting operations of both Autobots and Decepticons, planning to create their own Transformer soldiers. Meanwhile, Joshua Joyce (Stanley Tucci), the mastermind behind KSI, showcases Transformium, a versatile metal capable of being programmed, and reveals his latest creation, Galvatron, who bears the essence of Megatron. Joyce’s ambitions quickly entangle him and Attinger in a partnership that demands the “Seed,” adding layers of betrayal and desperation.
In a bold move, Optimus and the Autobots infiltrate the KSI headquarters to rescue Brains, an Autobot with essential knowledge, highlighting the stark division between what humans believe they need and the reality of their dependence on Autobots. As tensions heighten, Galvatron proves to have a will of his own, emerging as a formidable foe who seeks to manipulate events to his advantage.
Through thrilling confrontations and daring rescues, including the capture of Tessa, the Autobots band together to confront the escalating threats looming in their path, leading to an epic showdown that will decide the fate of both Autobots and humanity. The stakes rise astronomically as Optimus Prime wounds up entangled in a battle against Lockdown while Galvatron seeks to activate the Seed that could spell doom for humans.
With a fierce clash in Hong Kong, the Autobots must fight against overwhelming odds while embracing new allies, the Dinobots. Their courage is tested repeatedly, as they race against time to stop a catastrophic event that could lead to the rise of a new age of Decepticons.
As the dust settles, Optimus Prime emerges victorious but not without loss. He sets the Dinobots free and pledges loyalty to Cade and his family, vowing to confront the Creators looming in deep space. With a powerful message sent back to the stars, the battle is far from over, ensuring that the fight for Earth is just beginning.
