Five thousand years in the past, the city of Kahndaq fell under the oppressive regime of King Anh-Kot, who sought to forge the Crown of Sabbac, a powerful artifact capable of granting immense strength to its bearer. After subjecting his people to enslavement and forcing them to mine for the mystical crystal known as “Eternium” needed to craft the crown, a young boy inspires a rebellion among the enslaved. When this boy harnesses the power of Shazam, he transforms into Teth Adam (portrayed by Dwayne Johnson) and vanquishes Anh-Kot, bringing an end to the tyrant’s rule.
Fast forward to the present day, and Kahndaq is again under threat, this time from the sinister Intergang. Driven by her quest to find the Crown of Sabbac, archaeologist Adrianna Tomaz (Sarah Shahi), alongside her brother Karim (Mohammed Amer) and allies Samir (James Cusati-Moyer) and Ishmael (Marwan Kenzari), embarks on a daring adventure. When Adrianna successfully retrieves the crown, they find themselves ambushed by Intergang operatives, resulting in Samir’s tragic demise. In a twist of fate, Adrianna inadvertently recites an incantation that awakens Adam from his slumber, leading to a brutal confrontation in which he demolishes many of the Intergang soldiers. However, when the forces of Intergang deploy an Eternium missile, Adam is left comatose, revealing Ishmael’s true allegiance as a member of Intergang who seeks the crown for himself.
Meanwhile, government agent Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) learns of the chaos and enlists Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) to aid in capturing Adam. Hawkman is joined by the formidable Justice Society of America, including Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo). As Adrianna deciphers the inscription within the crown, which states, “Life is the only way to Death,” her son, Amon (Bodhi Sabongui), perceives Adam as Kahndaq’s savior, though Adam himself rejects this notion. In a display of defiance, Amon stirs up trouble with Intergang, prompting Adam to intervene and dominate the conflict. However, the Justice Society arrives just in time to contain Adam’s rampage, and in their pursuit, they realize Adrianna possesses the Crown of Sabbac.
As Adrianna contemplates surrendering the crown, she learns the truth about Adam’s destructive past and reluctantly refuses until they provide her with the full story. The crown ultimately finds its way to Amon, who returns it home, only to be confronted by Ishmael. Unbeknownst to Amon, Ishmael’s deceit is revealed as he shoots Karim in his bid to seize power. In a desperate call, Amon reaches out to Adrianna, pleading for Adam’s intervention. As Adam rushes to the rescue, Ishmael manages to kidnap Amon and speeds away on an Eternium bike.
Frustrated with their tactics, Adam resorts to brutal methods to interrogate captured Intergang members to locate their hideout, enraging Hawkman in the process. A tense showdown ensues, revealing that Amon has cleverly hidden the Crown of Sabbac. In a struggle against time, they race to rescue Amon, only for Ishmael to reveal his true identity as the last heir of King Anh-Kot, demanding the crown in exchange for Amon’s safety. Adrianna, wishing to save her son, reluctantly hands over the crown, but Ishmael’s betrayal leads to tragedy as he shoots Amon and dons the crown himself.
With chaos ensuing, Adam struggles to contain his burgeoning power, ultimately leading to mass destruction, until the Justice Society manages to shield Amon and Adrianna from the fallout of Ishmael’s rejection of the deal. Wracked with guilt, Adam retreats to the ruins of Anh-Kot’s palace, sharing with Hawkman the painful history of his son Hurut ([Jalon Christian]), Kahndaq’s original champion whose legacy was brutally erased by the king’s men. This emotional confession leads Adam to seek redemption, eventually surrendering to the Justice Society and being imprisoned at Waller’s underwater facility.
Unbeknownst to them, Ishmael’s machinations lead to his resurrection as Sabbac, who then summons an army of the undead to terrorize Kahndaq. Amidst the chaos, Adrianna, Amon, and Karim unite to embolden the citizens of Kahndaq in a fight for their freedom.
As the Justice Society takes a stand against Sabbac in the ruins of Anh-Kot, Doctor Fate conjures a powerful barrier preventing his teammates from joining the fray. He sacrifices himself in an effort to free Adam from his confines, enabling him to assist in the battle. Tragically, Sabbac kills Doctor Fate, dismantling the barrier and allowing Hawkman, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher to join the fight. Together, they confront Sabbac in a climactic showdown, with Adam desperately battling against the forces of darkness, yet struggling against Sabbac’s overwhelming might.
Finally, Hawkman channels Doctor Fate’s essence to conjure magical duplicates and strategic spells, aiding Adam in overcoming Sabbac and vanquishing his undead army. In the aftermath, the Justice Society part ways with Adam on amicable terms, with Adam embracing his newfound role as the protector of Kahndaq rather than desiring dominion. In a riveting mid-credits scene, Waller warns Adam of impending threats while he is abruptly confronted by Superman (Henry Cavill).
