In the dusty and worn-out setting of Bronco Billy’s Wild West Show, an eclectic group of performers, led by the charismatic Bronco Billy McCoy, attempts to captivate the sparse audiences with their thrilling acts. Billy, a remarkable stuntman, showcases his skills by shooting balloons off a revolving wooden disc while blindfolded, culminating his act with an audacious knife throw. However, his trusty assistant suffers a tragic fate when a miscalculated throw leads to her abrupt departure from the show.

As the troupe rolls into a new town, they face a new challenge: acquiring a vital permit from city hall. Here, Billy crosses paths with Antoinette Lily and John Arlington, a couple whose impending nuptials are marred by Antoinette’s clear distaste for her fiancé. Their car breaks down across from the Wild West Show’s location, leaving them stranded in an unfamiliar place.

The next day, as fate would have it, Billy helps Antoinette when her fiancé vanishes with their money and the newly repaired vehicle. In an unexpected twist, she decides to join Billy’s troupe as “Miss Lily,” performing in the show’s grand finale, despite her initial hesitations.

As the story unfolds, Antoinette discovers that John has been wrongly accused of her murder, a scheme devised by her manipulative stepmother along with a scheming lawyer friend, all in an effort to steal her inheritance. Fueled by a desire for retribution, Antoinette fully embraces her role in the Wild West Show, which instills a new sense of purpose in her life.

While settling into her new surroundings, Antoinette starts to realize that Billy’s troupe consists of more than just rough-riding cowboys. They are a quirky assembly of ex-convicts, recovering alcoholics, and individuals working diligently to escape their pasts. Billy McCoy himself has a colorful history, having once been a shoe salesman from New Jersey entangled in drama with his wife’s lover.

Despite the rough edges of her new companions, Antoinette finds comfort in the shared experiences of her fellow performers. When two members of the troupe announce they are expecting a child, the group celebrates with a wild night out at a local bar, only to witness one of their own being arrested due to a long-forgotten desertion from the Army.

Demonstrating remarkable loyalty, Billy McCoy puts the troupe’s meager savings on the line in order to pay off the sheriff, securing the release of their friend, showcasing a profound act of friendship.

However, the troupe’s fortunes take a drastic downturn when their humble canvas tent is consumed by flames. In the aftermath, accusations fly and Miss Lily becomes the target of blame for their misfortune. Nevertheless, Bronco Billy passionately defends her, hatching a bold plan to rob a train, a venture reminiscent of classic Western heists. They aim to ride alongside the train tracks and leap aboard, but the realities of modern trains pose an overwhelming challenge, forcing the troupe to abandon their reckless plan.

Seeking refuge, they reach a mental institution where they have previously entertained the residents for free. The eccentric head of the institution, who is fascinated with the Wild West, generously offers them temporary shelter and a new tent, crafted from American flags sewn together by the inmates. In this peculiar setting, a romantic moment unfolds between Miss Lily and Bronco Billy. Unexpectedly, one inmate is revealed to be Arlington, manipulated by a corrupt lawyer to feign insanity in connection with Antoinette’s alleged murder. Upon recognizing Antoinette, he causes a ruckus, leading to his release. Unfortunately, this means Bronco Billy and the troupe must leave without Miss Lily.

As Antoinette returns to her extravagant lifestyle, she finds herself longing for Billy, trying to fill the void with lavish parties. In contrast, Bronco Billy attempts to cope with his loneliness through alcohol consumption. Just when he is prepared to announce Lefty as his new partner, Miss Lily re-emerges, reigniting both passion and purpose within the troupe. Their fortunes take a brighter turn, transforming their show into a triumphant success and delivering a heartwarming message to the children in attendance, illustrating that, amidst struggle, hope and community can prevail.
