Plot Summary

The Galactic Republic is in a state of upheaval, marked by a separatist movement spearheaded by the former Jedi Master, Count Dooku. In the midst of this crisis, Senator Padmé Amidala, played by Natalie Portman, makes her way back to the Galactic Senate to voice her opposition against the establishment of an Army of the Republic. Upon reaching Coruscant, she narrowly escapes an assassination attempt involving a bomb hidden on her ship. Consequently, Chancellor Palpatine decides that she requires protection, assigning Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi—portrayed by Ewan McGregor—along with his young apprentice, Anakin Skywalker.

That very night, an assassin named Zam Wesell launches another attack against Padmé. In the ensuing chaos, Anakin and Obi-Wan pursue her, but she is swiftly eliminated by a toxic dart from a mysterious attacker. Following this incident, the Jedi Council instructs Anakin to escort Padmé back to Naboo, despite her objections to going into hiding. She reluctantly agrees at the request of the Supreme Chancellor and appoints Jar Jar Binks to represent her in the Senate.

Meanwhile, Obi-Wan’s probing leads him to his informant, Dexter Jettster, who identifies the deadly weapon used against Zam as a Kamino Saber-Dart. When Obi-Wan investigates the Jedi Archive for information on Kamino, he is shocked to find that the planet is missing from the records. Consulting Master Yoda, Obi-Wan concludes that someone has deliberately erased the planet’s existence from the archives.

After discovering the hidden planet, Obi-Wan learns of a secret clone army being cultivated for the Republic, initially commissioned by the Jedi Master, Sifo-Dyas, a figure believed to have died years prior. He soon encounters Jango Fett, who serves as the genetic template for the clones. An engagement ensues, and after failing to apprehend Jango, Obi-Wan places a tracking device on his ship to follow him to Geonosis.

As events unfold, Anakin and Padmé grow closer on Naboo. Anakin confesses his feelings for her, but Padmé resists, citing her responsibilities as a Senator and the Jedi Code that forbids attachment. Haunted by nightmares of his mother, Shmi, Anakin urges Padmé to accompany him to Tatooine. There, he discovers that Shmi has been captured by Tusken Raiders, and in a heart-wrenching moment, he finds her just as she passes away in his arms, prompting a reckless act of vengeance against her captors. Anakin later returns to pay his respects at her funeral.

On Geonosis, Obi-Wan uncovers that Count Dooku is collaborating with the Trade Federation to construct a new droid army, which poses a direct threat to Padmé’s life. Before his capture, Obi-Wan sends a warning to Anakin, who alongside Padmé, set out to rescue him but ends up in the droid factory where they are apprehended. They find themselves facing execution in an arena, but just as hope dwindles, Jedi Master Mace Windu arrives with reinforcements to battle the droid forces.

The tide turns rapidly with the emergence of Yoda, who leads the newly revealed clone army into battle against the Separatist forces. As chaos erupts in the Battle of Geonosis, Count Dooku attempts an escape but not before engaging in combat with Anakin and Obi-Wan. The fight takes a tragic turn when Dooku injures Obi-Wan and severes Anakin’s right arm. In a showdown, Yoda confronts Dooku, but Dooku escapes with plans for a new weapon—the Death Star.

Back on Coruscant, Obi-Wan relays Dooku’s disturbing warning about a Sith Lord manipulating the Senate, a claim that leaves the Jedi Council skeptical as they grapple with the ominous presence of the Dark Side. Meanwhile, Chancellor Palpatine prepares to unveil a colossal clone trooper force, signaling the onset of the Clone Wars.

In the touching conclusion set on Naboo, Anakin, now with a mechanical hand, marries Padmé in secret, shared only with the presence of their loyal droids, C-3PO and R2-D2. The stage is set for a galaxy forever changed by war and hidden agendas.
