Plot Summary

As the Galactic Republic teeters on the brink of collapse, a shadowy separatist movement led by the cunning Count Dooku (Christopher Lee), a former Jedi Master, threatens to upset the fragile balance of power. Against this backdrop of turmoil, Senator Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), the enigmatic and resourceful leader of Naboo, returns to the Galactic Senate with a crucial vote to cast. However, her arrival at Coruscant is marred by a perilous assassination attempt on her ship, foiled only by a narrow margin. In response, Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) requests that Padmé be placed under the protective umbrella of Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and his young apprentice, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen).

That fateful night, a stealthy bounty hunter named Zam Wesell makes another brazen attempt on Padmé’s life. The Senator narrowly escapes with her life, but not before Obi-Wan and Anakin are summoned to provide an escort detail. As they pursue the would-be assassin, they are met with unexpected resistance from a mysterious armored assailant who ultimately claims Zam’s life.

Following this violent interlude, the Jedi Council assigns Obi-Wan to uncover the truth behind the attempted murder, while Anakin is tasked with ensuring Padmé’s safety by escorting her back to Naboo. Though initially hesitant, Padmé agrees to accept the Supreme Chancellor’s protection and dispatches Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best) to represent her in the Senate.

Meanwhile, Obi-Wan’s investigation leads him to a trusted friend named Dexter Jettster, who provides crucial information about the deadly Kamino Saber-Dart that killed Zam. This revelation sparks a quest for knowledge, as Obi-Wan delves into the ancient Jedi Archives to unravel the mysteries of Kamino. However, his search yields a shocking discovery: someone has deliberately erased the planet’s location from the archive’s memory banks.

Undeterred, Obi-Wan tracks down the Kaminoans and uncovers the astonishing truth about their secret clone army, commissioned by a mysterious Jedi Master named Sifo-Dyas some ten years prior. The Kaminoans reveal that Jango Fett (Temuera Morrison), a notorious bounty hunter, has been serving as the template for these clones. Obi-Wan’s pursuit of Jango takes him to Geonosis, where he finally closes in on his quarry.

As the tranquil atmosphere on Naboo gives way to the turmoil brewing within Anakin Skywalker (Ewan McGregor), he confesses his deep-seated love for Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman) amidst the picturesque lakeside setting. However, their forbidden romance is tempered by the harsh realities of the Jedi Code, which forbids attachment and marriage. Meanwhile, Anakin’s troubled dreams foretell a looming danger threatening his mother, Shmi Skywalker (Pernilla August), prompting him to implore Padmé to accompany him to Tatooine.

Upon arrival on the desert planet, Anakin is met with devastating news: his mother has been sold into slavery by his former master. He and Padmé rush to the Lars farm, where they meet Owen and Beru, Anakin’s stepbrother and fiancée, as well as Kleg Lars, Shmi’s husband. As they delve deeper into the mystery of Shmi’s disappearance, Anakin discovers she was kidnapped by the ruthless Tusken Raiders a month prior. With his mother’s life slipping away, Anakin tracks her to the Tusken camp, where he finds her in dire straits and ultimately succumbs to rage, slaughtering the entire encampment before bringing her body back to Tatooine for a poignant funeral.

Across the galaxy, on the planet Geonosis, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) uncovers the sinister plans of Count Dooku and Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray. As he prepares to be captured by the Separatist Alliance, Obi-Wan shares his findings with Anakin, urging him to convey this critical information to the Jedi Council on Coruscant. Meanwhile, back on Geonosis, Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson) leads a team of Jedi Masters to confront the newly built droid army.

In a parallel development, Chancellor Palpatine is granted emergency powers by Jar Jar Binks’ impassioned plea, allowing him to deploy the clone army discovered on Kamino. As tensions escalate on Geonosis, Count Dooku employs his cunning guile to tempt Obi-Wan into joining the Separatist cause, warning him of a mysterious Sith Lord manipulating the Senate from behind the scenes. Refusing to yield to Dooku’s deceitful words, Obi-Wan remains steadfast in his loyalty to the Jedi Order.

As Anakin and Padmé attempt to infiltrate a droid factory on Geonosis, they are captured despite Anakin’s valiant efforts to evade detection. The stage is set for a tumultuous convergence of events that will forever alter the course of the galaxy.

As Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and his companions find themselves in a perilous arena, three behemoths of destruction are unleashed upon them, serving as a grim reminder of their impending doom. Amidst the chaos, Mace Windu (Temuera Morrison) arrives with the Jedi Order, and together they clash against the relentless droid army. However, just as all hope seems lost for the Jedi, Yoda’s (Frank Oz) timely intervention brings forth a contingent of clone troopers from the Galactic Republic, turning the tide of battle in their favor.

The Battle of Geonosis rages on, with the Republic’s forces pitted against the Separatist Alliance’s mechanical horde. As Count Dooku (Christopher Lee), a master of the dark side, attempts to flee the scene, Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) track him down to a clandestine hangar, where they engage in a fierce duel. The cunning Sith Lord proves too powerful, leaving Obi-Wan injured and severing Anakin’s right arm from his body.

Just as all seems lost for the Jedi duo, Yoda arrives on the scene, his lightsaber flashing as he confronts Dooku in an epic battle of wills. Realizing he is outmatched, Dooku resorts to desperate measures, nearly crushing Obi-Wan and Anakin beneath a towering pylon. It is then that Yoda employs the power of the Force to halt the impending doom, allowing Dooku to escape with the blueprints for a devastating new weapon - the dreaded Death Star.

As the dust settles on Coruscant, Dooku meets with his mysterious master, Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid), who is ecstatic that the war has begun as planned. It is here that Dooku’s true identity as the apprentice Sith Lord, Darth Tyranus, is revealed to the audience.

Meanwhile, back on Coruscant, Obi-Wan Kenobi shares his findings with the Jedi Council, warning them of Dooku’s ominous prophecy that Darth Sidious is manipulating the Galactic Senate. The Jedi Council members, including Yoda and Mace Windu, exhibit a surprising lack of conviction regarding this claim, attributing it to the dark side’s capacity to inspire fear and mistrust.

As tensions simmer on Coruscant, Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) oversees the deployment of an enormous clone trooper force, marking the beginning of the devastating Clone Wars.
