Emma finds herself trapped in an unhappy marriage with her cold, domineering husband, Mark, who works as a criminal attorney. After ending an affair with Tom, a partner at Mark’s firm, Emma and Mark celebrate their anniversary at a restaurant. To her surprise, Mark gifts her a steel necklace and drives her to a secluded lake house they frequented in their earlier days together. While there, he offers an apology for his past treatment, and they share an intimate night together.
However, the following morning takes a horrific turn when Emma wakes up to find herself handcuffed to Mark, who then shockingly takes his own life. With his lifeless body nearby, she realizes he has destroyed her cell phone and removed sharp objects from the house, leaving her with few means of escape. In a desperate search for freedom, Emma manages to find the keys to their SUV in the trash, but as she starts the engine, Mark’s taunting message plays over the radio, revealing his knowledge about her affair, before the SUV runs out of gas.
As the hours pass, Tom arrives at the lake house, having received mysterious messages from Emma’s phone. He explains that Mark was under investigation for illegal activities that could lead to his disbarment. Just then, trouble compounds as a man named Jimmy arrives in a truck to “fix the plumbing,” but his intentions are far more sinister. When Tom tries to get rid of him, Bobby, Jimmy’s brother, emerges and fatally stabs Tom. It becomes clear that Bobby, a dangerous stalker who had previously attacked Emma, has just returned from prison after a lengthy sentence.
With her life in grave danger, Emma bravely escapes from the men, finding refuge in the boat shed. In a tense scene, she employs an anchor to sever the handcuffs from Mark’s corpse and conceals herself just as Bobby and Jimmy enter. Overhearing their conversation reveals that Mark had orchestrated a plan to murder her in exchange for diamonds. As they search the house for a safe that supposedly holds the precious items, Emma puts her ingenuity to work by looking for a way to escape.
She attempts to fill the SUV with fuel, only to realize that its tires have been slashed. Thinking quick, she seeks refuge in the attic, where she manages to knock Bobby out with a heavy club. In the chaos, she tries to escape in Tom’s car, but Bobby stops her, leading to a violent confrontation. Prior to losing consciousness, Emma manages to call 911 with Tom’s phone.
When she regains consciousness, she finds herself once again cuffed to Mark’s body. Bobby reveals that the safe’s code is the date of Mark’s proposal to Emma. Negotiations turn dangerous as he threatens to harm her unless she cooperates. Eventually, Emma agrees to reveal the code in exchange for her freedom. When the safe is opened, a hacksaw is revealed, inscribed with a clue suggesting the diamonds are hidden within Emma’s necklace, an item that cannot be easily removed without dire consequences.
As tensions rise, a struggle ensues, leading to tragedy when Jimmy is accidentally impaled leading to more chaos. In a fierce fight for her life, Emma manages to cuff Bobby to Mark’s body and races to escape again, only for Bobby to pursue her into the frozen lake. In a climactic battle on the ice, Emma ultimately stabs Bobby, and they both plunge into the icy water. With incredible resolve, Emma gains the upper hand, retrieves her weapon, and fatally wounds him.
As the icy water pulls Bobby down to his fate, Emma resurfaces, finally free of her torment. She then takes off her wedding ring, letting it fall into the depths of the lake, signifying her liberation. Amidst the approaching sirens in the distance, Emma finds a fleeting moment of peace as she moves on from her traumatic ordeal.
