By the year 3028 A.D., humanity has mastered deep space travel, interacting with numerous alien species, and has made a significant groundbreaking discovery known as the Titan Project. This scientific marvel proves to be pivotal for mankind’s potential dominance in the universe. However, this advancement does not go unnoticed by the Drej, an energy-based alien race that perceives humanity as a threat and mobilizes their armada to obliterate both the Titan Project and humankind’s last chance at survival.
The story begins with a five-year-old boy named Cale (Alex D. Linz), who is busy finalizing his latest creation, a hydro-powered console, when it accidentally falls into a nearby creek. His father, Sam Tucker (Ron Perlman), rushes to bring him to the evacuation base in Pierce, Colorado. Before departing, Sam gifts Cale a gold ring, imparting heartfelt words of hope. However, as the ominous Drej mothership appears, Sam is forced to leave his son behind. Cale, along with family friend Tek (Tone Loc), boards an evacuation pod, witnessing the catastrophic destruction of Earth as the Drej annihilate the planet and its Moon.
Fifteen years later, Cale, now portrayed by Matt Damon, finds himself in a salvage yard located in the asteroid belt of Tau 14. The human population has drastically diminished, and the race faces ridicule from alien species, rumored to be on the verge of extinction. After a confrontation with some alien workers, Cale crosses paths with Joseph Korso (Bill Pullman), an old friend of his father, who reveals Cale’s importance to humanity’s survival. With the arrival of Drej fighters, Cale and Korso face immediate danger as they evade their pursuers.
As the narrative unfolds, Cale learns that his gold ring is crucial—it contains a holographic map revealing the hidden location of the Titan. Alongside pilot Akima (Drew Barrymore) and Korso, Cale embarks on a thrilling adventure filled with perilous encounters, including a dramatic escape from the Drej mothership. The journey takes them to an ancient race known as the Gaoul, where they gather vital information concerning the Titan’s whereabouts.
Amidst escalating conflicts with the Drej, Cale demonstrates his pilot skills, joyfully engaging in races with ethereal creatures in nebular matter. However, a betrayal surfaces as Korso’s true allegiance comes into question, leading to intense confrontations and unexpected alliances among the crew aboard the ship Valkyrie.
As they battle against time to locate the Titan before the Drej do, Cale realizes the ship holds the power to create a new world for humanity. In an exhilarating climax, Cale overcomes insurmountable odds, sacrifices are made, and a new planet is eventually formed from the remnants of the old, symbolizing hope and rebirth.
At the end of their expedition, as Akima and Cale tread on this new planet, they ponder its name, and despite her protests, Cale decides on ‘Bob’. Their victory is celebrated as they witness ships of surviving humans flocking to a new home in what is marked as the era of ‘New Earth,’ the dawn of a renewed age for humanity.
