Toby Jones

Toby Edward Heslewood Jones, OBE (born 7 September 1966), is an esteemed English actor. He has a rich repertoire of character actor roles. Jones' career began with intensive training at L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq from 1989-1991. He made his stage debut with the comedy Play What I Wrote in 2001, garnering acclaim in both West End and Broadway and bagging the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He was again nominated for the Olivier Award for his role in *Uncle Vanya* in 2020. His notable film roles include Truman Capote in *Infamous*, voice roles in *Harry Potter*, *The Adventures of Tintin* and *Christopher Robin*, roles in *The Hunger Games*, *Captain America: The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier*, and *Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom*. Jones has a prolific career in television as well, earning a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of Alfred Hitchcock in the HBO film *The Girl*. Jones has also starred in the acclaimed series *Mr Bates vs The Post Office*. Jones was born to actors in Hammersmith, London. He attended the University of Manchester from 1986 to 1989 for drama, and later, L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq from 1989 to 1991. His film career began in 1992 with *Orlando*, and he has since appeared in over 60 films. His roles cover a wide range, from voicing Dobby in *Harry Potter* series, portraying Truman Capote in *Infamous*, to playing in blockbusters like *The Hunger Games*. His talent is not limited to film; he has also distinguished himself in TV series like *Doctor Who*, *Sherlock* and numerous miniseries. He was awarded *Best Male Comedy* BAFTA for *Detectorists*. In 2024, Jones played Alan Bates in *Mr Bates vs The Post Office*, a biographical drama.
