Plot Summary

As Police Chief Ingimundur (actor name) struggles to come to terms with the tragic loss of his wife in a car accident, he finds himself reluctantly embroiled in the process of grief counseling. Meanwhile, he pours his energies into renovating a farm building for his daughter Elín’s family, and occasionally assumes childcare duties for her young daughter Salka. The sense of purpose these activities provide serves as a fragile shield against the overwhelming emotions that threaten to consume him.

It is only after Elín presents him with a collection of mementos left behind by his departed wife that Ingimundur’s carefully constructed facade begins to crumble. A video recording, seemingly capturing an intimate moment between his late spouse and a man named Olgeir Olafsson, sets off a chain reaction of devastating revelations.

In a desperate bid to uncover the truth about his wife’s extramarital affair, Ingimundur becomes fixated on Olgeir, covertly surveilling his every move and even joining his football club. The inclement weather that soon descends upon the region serves only to further exacerbate the sense of claustrophobia and desperation building within him.

As the storm rages on, Ingimundur’s grip on reality begins to slip. During an online therapy session, he lashes out in a fit of rage, destroying the room and subsequently assaulting two colleagues who attempt to intervene. His behavior becomes increasingly erratic as he seeks to rid himself of his granddaughter Salka, ultimately kidnapping Olgeir at gunpoint and dragging him to a grave he has dug.

In a twisted bid for answers, Ingimundur demands that Olgeir reveal the truth about the affair, his wife’s feelings towards her lover, and his own perception of her. The man obliges, prompting Ingimundur to unleash a torrent of fury. Olgeir flees, leaving Ingimundur wounded and reeling.

The following day, as a blinding snowstorm once again reduces visibility to near zero, Olgeir tracks down Ingimundur and exacts a brutal revenge in the form of a stabbing. Salka is left traumatized by the ordeal, while Ingimundur, his arm bleeding profusely, musters the strength to carry her home through the howling gale.

In the aftermath of this latest catastrophe, Ingimundur’s grip on reality finally begins to slip away, replaced by a poignant recognition of his grief and anger. As he weeps uncontrollably, his late wife appears to him in a vision, undressing and smiling as she gazes upon her bereaved husband. The cathartic release that follows marks the beginning of Ingimundur’s long-overdue journey towards healing and redemption.
