What device does Flint need to disable the FLDSMDFR?

Plot Summary

As the dust settles on Chewandswallow Island, now freed from the chaos wrought by the “Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator” (aka the FLDSMDFR), Flint’s childhood hero, Chester V, CEO of Live Corp, arrives to lend a helping hand. Chester’s corporation offers its services to aid in the island’s cleanup and relocation efforts, with Chewandswallow residents bound for San Franjose, California. As Flint joins forces with Live Corp, he finds himself vying for promotion within the company, only to suffer an embarrassing setback when his “Party in a Box” invention malfunctions during a public demonstration.

That same evening, Chester confronts Flint about the FLDSMDFR’s ongoing activity, revealing that it has given rise to sentient food creatures known as foodimals. One such creature had already launched an attack on Live Corp employees stationed at Swallow Falls. Chester tasks Flint with embarking on a solo mission to the island, where he must locate and disable the FLDSMDFR by inserting a crucial “BS-USB” device. However, Flint’s reluctance to venture forth alone is quickly overcome as he invites his loyal entourage: Steve, his trusty pet monkey; Sam Sparks, his meteorologist girlfriend, accompanied by her cameraman Manny; Earl Devereaux, the island’s dependable police officer; and Brent McHale, Chewandswallow’s former mascot. Flint also grudgingly accepts the help of Tim, his widowed father, who lends a hand with their journey aboard his fishing boat. Little do they know that Chester has other plans in store, as he rounds up some Live Corp employees, including his beleaguered orangutan assistant Barb, to follow suit and join the adventure.

As Tim forms an unlikely bond with a cluster of sentient pickles on the boat, Flint and his companions embark on a perilous journey through the jungle-like terrain that now completely envelops the island, navigating treacherous landscapes crafted from a kaleidoscope of culinary delights. Along the way, they encounter a veritable menagerie of edible creatures, including Barry, a charming strawberry who becomes an instant friend, and the formidable Tacodile, whose fearsome reputation precedes it. However, their progress is dogged by the menacing presence of a Cheespider, a monstrous foodimal that had previously wreaked havoc on Chester’s employees. When Chester arrives on the scene, his sudden appearance sends the Cheespider fleeing, but not before Sam becomes increasingly suspicious of his true intentions. Flint’s reluctance to listen to Sam’s concerns ultimately leads to a rift in their group, as Earl, Manny, Brent, and even Steve decide to abandon Flint and return to the relative safety of the boat. In a surprising turn of events, they reencounter the Cheespider, only to discover that its aggressive behavior was merely a response to the presence of Live Corp’s insignia on those who wore it. As they begin to unravel the sinister motivations behind Chester’s actions, the group realizes that the foodimals have inadvertently stumbled upon a dark truth: the “live” in Live Corp’s name is actually an anagram for “evil.” This revelation comes too late, as Chester’s henchmen capture Sam and his friends when they attempt to warn Flint of the impending doom.

Undeterred by the setbacks, Flint, accompanied by Chester and Barb, sets out to locate the elusive FLDSMDFR. Along the way, they befriend a trio of pliable marshmallows that have been brought to life by the machine’s whimsical creations. However, when Flint refuses to activate the BS-USB device, allowing the machine to hack into its vast network of data, Chester seizes the opportunity to insert the device himself, revealing his true intentions: to exploit the FLDSMDFR’s capabilities and use it as a tool for reprogramming the island’s foodimals. As Chester gains control over the machine, he sets about capturing the island’s edible inhabitants, intending to utilize them as key ingredients in Live Corp’s forthcoming line of food bars.

Meanwhile, Barry and their new marshmallow friends stage a daring rescue mission to liberate Flint from Chester’s clutches. Reunited with Tim, Flint comes to terms with the devastating reality that the FLDSMDFR’s absence has left the island’s ecosystem on the brink of collapse. Moved by the foodimals’ reverence for him as their creator, Flint vows to find a way to save the island and its inhabitants from extinction.

As Tim and the plucky foodimals burst onto the scene at Live Corp’s heavily fortified base, Flint (voice of Bill Hader) and Barry (voice of Andy Samberg) find themselves caught in a maelstrom of chaos. In the midst of the mayhem, Barry takes advantage of the distraction to liberate a group of captive foodimals, who then join forces with their newfound allies to take on Live Corp’s hapless employees in a series of hilarious and action-packed skirmishes.

Meanwhile, Flint faces off against his nemesis, Chester (voice of Neil Patrick Harris), who responds to his friend’s defiance by issuing a chilling ultimatum: surrender or face the prospect of being transformed into a tasty snack. When Barb (voice of Kristen Wiig) begins to waver in her resolve, Chester’s ire is piqued and he launches himself at Flint with reckless abandon.

Undaunted, Flint unleashes his “Party in a Box” invention, using it to devastating effect as he bests Chester in a battle of wits and cunning. With the rogue executive defeated and his friends freed from captivity, Flint sets out to put an end to Chester’s nefarious plans once and for all.

As Chester attempts to make a break for it with the FLDSMDFR, a device capable of creating an endless supply of foodimals, he finds himself pursued by a determined group of foodimals and Flint’s loyal cohorts. Barb, who has had enough of her boss’s abuse, seizes the opportunity to turn the tables on Chester, wresting control of the FLDSMDFR from his grasp and leaving him to face the wrath of the Cheespider - a monstrous creature with an insatiable appetite for all things cheesy.

In the aftermath of their triumph, Flint returns the FLDSMDFR to its rightful place in the heart of Swallow Falls, freeing it from Chester’s tyranny and reuniting with his friends. As the residents of the island adapt to their new surroundings, they discover that the altered ecosystem has brought with it a sense of community and harmony - a development that is met with joy and acceptance by all.

In the end, the FLDSMDFR continues to create an endless array of foodimals, which thrive in their newfound freedom, coexisting peacefully alongside the islanders who have come to regard them as cherished friends.
